Prequel ‘Dexter: Original Sin‘ will be back for more serial killing as Paramount announces the drama has been renewed for Season 2.
Set in 1991 Miami, ‘Dexter: Original Sin’ follows Dexter (Patrick Gibson) as he transitions from student to avenging serial killer. When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father, Harry (Christian Slater), he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcement’s radar. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.
Patrick Gibson (Shadow and Bone) stars as Dexter Morgan, alongside Christian Slater (Mr. Robot) as Harry Morgan, Patrick Dempsey (Grey’s Anatomy, Devils) as Aaron Spencer, Molly Brown (Senior Year) as Debra Morgan, James Martinez (Love, Victor, Wolf Pack) as Angel Batista, Christina Milian (Grandfathered, The Oath) as Maria LaGuerta, Alex Shimizu (The Terror, The Blacklist) as Vince Masuka and Reno Wilson (Good Girls, Mike & Molly) as Bobby Watt. Sarah Michelle Gellar guest stars as Tanya Martin, the CSI Chief at the Miami Metro Police Department and Dexter Morgan’s new boss. Michael C. Hall returns to the franchise as the inner voice of the young Dexter.
The drama was Showtime‘s most-streamed series in 10 years, according to reports, so the renewal does exactly come as a surprise. The next drama in the “Dexter-verse” is ‘Dexter: Resurrection‘, a sequel to ‘Dexter: New Blood’ and a continuation of the “present-day” story. That will star Michael C. Hall, who, if you watched the start of ‘Original Sin’, you will know survived the ending of ‘New Blood’. They are also working on another prequel, which follows John Lithgow’s “Trinity Killer”, and would have Lithgow return to narrate.
Emmy nominee Clyde Phillips (Dexter, Nurse Jackie) returns as showrunner and executive producer. ‘Dexter: Original Sin’ is executive produced by Phillips and produced by Showtime Studios and Counterpart Studios. Executive producers also include Scott Reynolds (Jessica Jones), Michael C. Hall (‘Dexter’), Mary Leah Sutton (Resident Evil), Tony Hernandez (Emily In Paris), Lilly Burns (Russian Doll), with the series being produced by Robert Lloyd Lewis (The Lincoln Lawyer). Reuniting with Slater is Michael Lehmann (Heathers), who serves as directing executive producer.
