Netflix Releases Trailer & Sets July Premiere For ‘The Sandman’ 2nd & Final Season

by Dave Elliott

Netflix has released a little teaser trailer and announced that The Sandman will return this July, in two parts, for its 2nd and final season.

‘The Sandman’ follows the people and places affected by Morpheus, the Dream King, as he mends the cosmic, and human, mistakes he’s made during his vast existence. After a fateful reunion with his family, Dream of the Endless (Tom Sturridge) must face one impossible decision after another as he attempts to save himself, his kingdom, and the waking world from the epic fallout of his past misdeeds. To make amends, Dream must confront longtime friends and foes, gods, monsters, and mortals. But the path to forgiveness is full of unexpected twists and turns, and true absolution may cost Dream everything.

Alongside Sturridge, Season 2 also features the extensive cast of Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Mason Alexander Park, Donna Preston, Esmé Creed-Miles, Adrian Lester, Barry Sloane, Patton Oswalt, Vivienne Acheampong, Gwendoline Christie, Jenna Coleman, Ferdinand Kingsley, Stephen Fry, Asim Chaudhry, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Razane Jammal, Ruairi O’Connor, Freddie Fox, Clive Russell, Laurence O’Fuarain, Ann Skelly, Douglas Booth, Jack Gleeson, Indya Moore, and Steve Coogan.

Based on the DC Comic by Neil Gaiman, Sam Keith, and Mike Dringenberg, Allan Heinberg (Wonder Woman, The Catch) serves as showrunner and EP on the drama. It was announced in January by Heinberg that season two would be a final season for the show. This was amid allegations of sexual assault and misconduct against Gaiman, however, Heinberg says the decision had already been made to end the show at two seasons.

“The Sandman series has always been focused exclusively on Dream’s story, and back in 2022, when we looked at the remaining Dream material from the comics, we knew we only had enough story for one more season,” said Heinberg on social media. “We are extremely grateful to Netflix for bringing the team all back together and giving us the time and resources to make a faithful adaptation in a way that we hope will surprise and delight the comics’ loyal readers as well as fans of our show.”

The Sandman‘ Season 2 Part 1 will premiere on Netflix with six episodes on Thursday, 3rd July 2025, with the remaining five episodes of Part 2 following on Thursday, 24th July 2025.
