‘The Dry’: Final Season of Award-Winning Comedy Begins Filming in Dublin

by Dave Elliott

Filming is now underway in Dublin for the third and final season of the award-winning Irish comedy drama The Dry, which returns to ITVX and RTÉ for one last round of laughs, family drama, and sober soul-searching.

Created by BAFTA-nominated playwright Nancy Harris (Dates) and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Paddy Breathnach (Viva, Rosie), the eight-episode final season once again follows Róisín Gallagher (The Lovers, Mandrake) as Shiv Sheridan, a recovering alcoholic navigating the chaos of her dysfunctional family — and her own self-destructive tendencies.

Joining the returning cast this season is Rick Donald (Wentworth, Population 11) as Daryl, a handsome and mysterious Australian who unexpectedly appears at one of Shiv’s recovery meetings. But his interest in her might not be as innocent as it seems…

Alongside Gallagher, the core cast returning includes Siobhán Cullen (Obituary, Bodkin) as Caroline, Adam John Richardson (The Vanishing Triangle) as Ant, Pom Boyd (Frank of Ireland, Bodkin) as Bernie, Ciarán Hinds (Belfast, The Terror) as Tom, Moe Dunford (Vikings, Texas Chainsaw Massacre) as Jack, and Eoin Duffy (The Tourist, The Apprentice) as Rory.

As the final chapter begins, the Sheridans are confronted by a long-buried family secret that threatens to derail their attempts at moving forward. Old patterns re-emerge, and as Shiv tries to keep things from spiralling, she’s forced to confront the uncomfortable possibility that maybe it’s not just her past or her family, maybe the biggest obstacle to her recovery… is herself.

Writer Nancy Harris says:

“It has been a true joy to see audiences embrace the Sheridan family in all their dysfunctional glory and I am so grateful to have gotten to tell this story over three seasons. The third and final season aims to go deeper than ever before, really getting under the skin of Shiv and the family in a way that we hope is both surprising, funny and (painfully) honest.”

Produced by Element Pictures (Normal People, Poor Things) for ITVX and RTÉ, the show is supported by Screen Ireland, with global distribution handled by ITV Studios.

The Dry‘ Season 3 does not yet have a premiere date but will air on ITVX and RTÉ. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
