‘The Couple Next Door’ is back, but not as you remember it. The dark and seductive psychological drama returns to Channel 4 this July with an entirely new cast and storyline, once again diving into the twisted secrets that hide behind suburban doors.
Swapping out the original cast for a new ensemble, Season 2 introduces Sam Palladio (Nashville, The Princess Switch), Annabel Scholey (The Split, The Sixth Commandment), Aggy K Adams (The Witcher, Greek Salad) and Sendhil Ramamurthy (One Piece, Never Have I Ever) in leading roles. They are joined by returning cast member Hugh Dennis (Outnumbered, Not Going Out), who reprises his role as Alan.
This fresh chapter, written by David Allison (Marcella, Bedlam) and directed by Dries Vos (Suspect, Professor T), takes viewers back into the suffocating world of the cul-de-sac, where neighbourly boundaries are once again crossed in all the worst ways.
This time, the story centres on brilliant heart surgeon Charlotte Roberts (Scholey) and her husband Jacob (Palladio), a consultant anaesthetist. Their carefully managed lives are turned inside out by the arrival of Mia (Adams), a mysterious new hospital colleague who rents the house next door. What starts as a seemingly innocent friendship escalates into something far more dangerous, as Mia inserts herself into their lives and their marriage.
As Mia’s web of charm begins to unravel, patients at the hospital start dying under suspicious circumstances, and Charlotte is forced to confront the truth behind her new neighbour’s identity. Meanwhile, the reappearance of past flame Leo (Ramamurthy) adds further complications. One thing becomes clear: indulging your fantasies can be fatal.
Inspired by the Scandi drama ‘Dopamin’ and loosely based on the Dutch series ‘The Neighbors’, this new instalment of The Couple Next Door continues to blend domestic noir with slick, seductive storytelling.
Produced by Eagle Eye Drama in association with Happy Duck Films, and supported by the Belgian Tax Shelter, the series is executive produced by Jo McGrath and Walter Iuzzolino, with Jennifer Burnet serving as producer. International distribution is handled by Beta Film.
