We’re heading into the final fortnight of the Kickstarter campaign for ‘Goodnight Sweetheart: Many Happy Returns’, the crowdfunded novel that aims to bring back Gary Sparrow for the series 7 we never got. And the message is simple: if fans don’t back it, it won’t happen.
Created by Laurence Marks & Maurice Gran, the BAFTA-winning duo behind the original BBC series, this officially licensed book picks up right where the 2016 reunion left off. It dives straight back into the time-travel chaos of Gary’s life as he returns to 1962. But it can only be published if enough fans pledge their support via Kickstarter.
At time of writing, the project is two-thirds funded, but unless it hits its target, the book won’t go to print. There won’t be another shot. The deadline is Fri, 25th July 2025, so they need your help now!

Unlike traditional publishing, this isn’t something that will magically appear on shop shelves later. There’s no safety net if the funding falls short. A lot of fans are assuming they’ll “pick it up when it comes out,” but it simply won’t happen unless the target is hit.
