Prepare for a thrilling descent into a world of unexpected twists and high-stakes drama as Netflix drops the first teaser and exclusive new images for its highly anticipated limited series ‘Hostage‘, set to premiere globally this August.
Starring and executive produced by Suranne Jones (‘Gentleman Jack’, ‘Vigil’), marking her debut collaboration with Netflix, the five-part drama comes from the mind of writer and executive producer Matt Charman (‘Bridge of Spies’, ‘Treason’).
“I’m thrilled to be on Netflix, in something I’m really proud of,” said Jones. “It’s been something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. We’d talked about projects previously, but for me, it was about finding the right thing. Hostage was perfect — me and Matt together, backed up by this brilliant, supportive team. I loved it.”
The gripping plot unfolds as the British Prime Minister’s husband is kidnapped, coinciding with the blackmailing of a visiting French President. Both political leaders face unimaginable choices as they are drawn into a fierce rivalry, where their political futures and their very lives hang precariously in the balance. Amid this crisis, can they overcome their differences and collaborate to unravel the conspiracy threatening them both?
Alongside Jones, the stellar cast features Julie Delpy (‘Before Sunrise’), Corey Mylchreest (‘Queen Charlotte’), Lucian Msamati (‘Gangs of London’), Ashley Thomas (‘Them’), James Cosmo (‘Game of Thrones’), Martin McCann (‘The Informer’), and Jehnny Beth (‘Paris, 13th District’).
Produced by Netflix in collaboration with Binocular, ‘Hostage‘ is directed by Isabel Sieb (‘Vigil’) and Amy Neil (‘Hanna’). The series is executive produced by Suranne Jones, Foz Allan, and Steve Searle, with David Meanti serving as series producer.
‘Hostage‘ premieres Thursday, 21st August 2025, exclusively on Netflix.
