Prime Video has dropped the official trailer for its upcoming spy thriller ‘Butterfly‘, a tense and emotional character-driven series starring and executive produced by Daniel Dae Kim (Lost, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Hawaii Five-O). Based on the graphic novel from BOOM! Studios, the six-part series premieres in full this August.
The newly released trailer sets the tone for a psychological game of cat-and-mouse. Kim plays David Jung, a former U.S. intelligence operative hiding out in South Korea after a morally compromising decision derailed his life. The footage teases a man haunted by his past, pushed to his limits as he’s hunted by a lethal young agent named Rebecca, played by Reina Hardesty (The Secret Art of Human Flight), who works for the covert and sinister spy organization known as Caddis.
Stylish, moody, and laced with paranoia, the trailer promises a deeply personal spy thriller that doesn’t just dive into global espionage, but also into broken family ties, trust, and betrayal. Alongside Kim and Hardesty, the series also stars Piper Perabo (Yellowstone, Billions, The Big Leap) and Louis Landau (Rivals), with recurring appearances from Kim Ji-hoon, Park Hae-soo, Kim Tae-hee, Charles Parnell, and Sean Dulake, plus guest roles from Sung Dong-il and Lee Il-hwa.
Ken Woodruff (The Mentalist, Gotham) serves as showrunner and co-creator with novelist Steph Cha, with Kitao Sakurai directing the first two episodes. The series is executive produced by Woodruff, Cha, Kim, and others under Kim’s 3AD production banner, in partnership with BOOM! Studios and Amazon MGM Studios.
‘Butterfly‘ Season 1 premieres Wednesday, 13th August 2025 on Prime Video.
