Prime Video has unveiled the first teaser trailer for its upcoming psychological thriller ‘The Girlfriend‘, a tense and twisty new series led by Robin Wright (House of Cards) and Olivia Cooke (House of the Dragon). The six-part drama is set to launch this September, inviting viewers into a world where suspicion and manipulation blur the lines of truth.
Based on Michelle Frances’ bestselling novel, ‘The Girlfriend’ follows Laura (Wright), a woman who seemingly has it all: a high-powered career, a supportive husband, and an adoring son, Daniel. But when Daniel introduces his new girlfriend, Cherry (Cooke), Laura’s perfect life begins to unravel. What starts as motherly concern quickly spirals into a psychological chess game, as Laura becomes convinced that Cherry isn’t who she claims to be. But is Cherry truly dangerous, or is Laura’s paranoia clouding her judgement?
The teaser offers a glimpse of the simmering tension between the two women, as well as the elegant but claustrophobic world they inhabit. With brooding visuals and cryptic exchanges, the trailer hints at dark secrets and a mounting sense of dread, promising a stylish and unsettling ride.
‘The Girlfriend’ also stars Laurie Davidson (Mary & George) as Daniel, Waleed Zuaiter (Gangs of London), Tayna Moodie (The Sixth Commandment), Shalom Brune-Franklin (Great Expectations), Karen Henthorn (The Trouble with Maggie Cole), Anna Chancellor (Pennyworth), Leo Suter (Vikings: Valhalla), and Francesca Corney (The Buccaneers).
The series is produced by Imaginarium Productions and Amazon MGM Studios, with Wright also serving as an executive producer. Adapted for television by Naomi Sheldon and Gabbie Asher, it features a writers’ room packed with British talent including Polly Cavendish, Helen Kingston, Marek Horn, Ava Wong Davies, Isis Davis, Smita Bhide, and Matt Evans.
