FX is diving into the heart of a tense psychological family drama as it orders limited series ‘Cry Wolf‘, starring Olivia Colman (The Favourite, The Crown) and Brie Larson (Room, Lessons in Chemistry), and created by Sarah Treem (The Affair).
Inspired by the acclaimed Danish series Ulven Kommer (Cry Wolf) by Maja Jul Larsen, the limited series follows a social worker (Colman) and a mother (Larson) who are pushed to the edge when the mother’s teenage daughter makes a disturbing allegation of abuse. What follows is a gripping, emotionally charged examination of truth, responsibility, and the devastating impact of a single accusation.
Colman and Larson both serve as executive producers on the project, which has been in active development at FX since earlier this year. Treem, who will also act as showrunner, developed the series alongside Colman’s South of the River Pictures and Melissa Bernstein of Special Interests. The series order was finalised after Larson joined as co-lead.
The project marks a return to FX for Colman, who previously appeared in Great Expectations and guest-starred on The Bear, earning an Emmy nomination for the latter. She’s also recently appeared in Jimpa opposite John Lithgow and will star with Benedict Cumberbatch in The Roses, a reimagining of The War of the Roses. Larson, meanwhile, continues her strong run of both critical and blockbuster success, following her Oscar-winning turn in Room and her Marvel stardom as Captain Marvel. She recently led Apple TV+’s Lessons in Chemistry, picking up multiple award nominations.
‘Cry Wolf’ is produced by FX Productions, with executive producers including Treem, Colman, Larson, Ed Sinclair, Bernstein, Alena Smith, Maja Jul Larsen, Christian Rank, and Claudia Saganario. The series brings together an impressive team behind and in front of the camera for what promises to be a provocative, emotional and character-driven limited series.
‘Cry Wolf‘ does not yet have a premiere date. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
