The high-octane espionage thriller ‘Lioness‘, from Yellowstone and Sicario creator Taylor Sheridan, is making its free-to-air debut in the UK this September, as ITVX picks up both seasons of the hit US drama.
Originally launched on Paramount+ in July 2023, ‘Lioness’ and its second season (which followed in October 2024) have already streamed in full on Paramount+ UK and remain available to watch on the platform. However, this will be the first time the series has been available to viewers without a paid subscription, as ITVX brings the first season to its streaming lineup starting September.
Inspired by an actual US Military program, ‘Lioness’ centres on Joe, played by Zoe Saldaña (Avatar), a CIA operative trying to juggle her high-stakes role in counterterrorism with the demands of her personal life. She leads the Lioness Program, an elite undercover initiative designed to infiltrate terror networks before they strike.
Also starring Laysla De Oliveira (Locke & Key) as Marine Raider Cruz, Michael Kelly (House of Cards) as CIA man Byron, and executive producer Nicole Kidman (Big Little Lies) as Kaitlyn Meade, the show doesn’t hold back on either intensity or star power. Rounding out the cast is none other than Morgan Freeman (Se7en), who appears as Edwin Mullins, the US Secretary of State.

Produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios, the series is executive produced by Taylor Sheridan, Zoe Saldaña, Nicole Kidman, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, David Hutkin, Jill Wagner, Geyer Kosinski, Michael Malone, and John Hillcoat.
The second season of ‘Lioness’ is also headed to ITVX, but viewers will need to wait until 2026 for its debut on the free streamer.
