Netflix has dropped the official teaser for ‘Wayward‘, a limited series mystery thriller led by Mae Martin (Feel Good) and Toni Collette (Hereditary, The Staircase), set to arrive this September.
Set in the seemingly idyllic town of Tall Pines, ‘Wayward’ follows police officer Alex Dempsey (played by Mae Martin) who relocates with their pregnant wife Laura (played by Sarah Gadon (Alias Grace)) for a fresh start. But the peaceful facade of the town begins to unravel after Dempsey connects with two students from a local academy for “troubled teens” – Abbie (Sydney Topliffe) and Leila (Alyvia Alyn Lind (Chucky)) – who are desperate to escape. What follows is a spiralling mystery involving cult-like control, dark secrets, and a dangerously charismatic school leader, Evelyn, portrayed by Toni Collette.
The series also stars Brandon Jay McLaren (Graceland), with recurring appearances from Tattiawna Jones, Isolde Ardies, and Joshua Close, and guest spots by Patrick J. Adams (Suits), Patrick Gallagher, Gage Munroe, Byron Mann, and Mark McKinney.
‘Wayward’ is created and co-showrun by Mae Martin, with Ryan Scott (Ghosts, Young Drunk Punk) also serving as co-showrunner and executive producer. Direction duties are split between Euros Lyn (Doctor Who, Heartstopper), Renuka Jeyapalan, and John Fawcett (Orphan Black). Episodes are written by Mae Martin, Ryan Scott, Evangeline Ordaz, Mohamad El Masri, Kim Steele, Kayla Lorette, Alex Elbridge, and Misha Osherovich.
Blending psychological drama, social satire and mystery, the show explores the generational divide, the tension between loyalty and survival, and how buried truths always find a way to surface.
‘Wayward’ is executive produced by Mae Martin, Ryan Scott, Jennifer Kawaja and Bruno Dubé (with Sphere Media), and Ben Farrell and Hannah Mackay (with Objective Fiction).
‘Wayward‘ is an 8-episode limited series premiering Wednesday, 25th September 2025 on Netflix.
