The BBC has confirmed that ‘King & Conqueror‘ will launch this August bank holiday, with all eight episodes available on BBC iPlayer from 6am that Sunday and the first episode airing on BBC One that evening.
The 8×45’ historical drama tells the story of a clash that shaped the future of a country and a continent for a thousand years. Its roots stretch back decades through two interconnected family dynasties battling for power across two countries and a stormy sea. Harold of Wessex and William of Normandy begin as allies with no designs on the English throne, but circumstance and obsession pull them into a war for possession of the crown that culminates at the Battle of Hastings in 1066.
James Norton (Happy Valley, Bob Marley: One Love) stars as Harold, Earl of Wessex, opposite Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game of Thrones) as William, Duke of Normandy. They are joined by Emily Beecham (1899, Little Joe) as Edith Swan-neck and Clémence Poésy (In Bruges, The Tunnel) as Matilda.
