Fans of high-flying kicks, gravity-defying swordplay and bloody feudal rivalries can rejoice, as ‘Into the Badlands’ is coming to ITVX in the UK this September, with all three seasons dropping together as a full box set. The martial-arts-infused sci-fi drama originally ran from 2015 to 2019 on Prime Video in the UK and AMC in the USA, and has built a cult following thanks to its stylish fight choreography and lush, post-apocalyptic setting.
Centuries from now, civilisation has collapsed, leaving behind a feudal society known as the Badlands. This fractured territory is carved up between seven ruthless Barons, each ruling with iron fists and loyal armies of trained assassins called Clippers. Few Clippers ever live to see their thirties, but the most feared among them is Sunny, played by Daniel Wu (Tai Chi Zero). As Regent, or Head Clipper, Sunny serves as the trusted enforcer of Baron Quinn, brought to life by Marton Csokas (The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King).
Quinn has long reigned as the most powerful Baron in the Badlands, but his dominance is tested by a newcomer, The Widow, portrayed by Emily Beecham (28 Weeks Later). Her attacks on Quinn’s empire threaten to ignite all-out war. Sunny’s path collides with that of M.K. (Aramis Knight, The Dark Knight Rises), a teenager with a dangerous secret and a price on his head. Together, Sunny and M.K. embark on a perilous journey that could shift the balance between chaos and enlightenment.
Alongside its jaw-dropping action sequences, ‘Into the Badlands’ features a stellar ensemble including Oliver Stark (9-1-1), Orla Brady (Doctor Who, Fringe), Sarah Bolger (Once Upon a Time, The Tudors), Ally Ioannides (Parenthood), and Madeleine Mantock (Edge of Tomorrow).
The series was created by Al Gough and Miles Millar (Shanghai Noon, Smallville), with executive producers including David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers), Michael Shamberg (Contagion), Stacey Sher (Pulp Fiction), Stephen Fung (Tai Chi Zero) and star Daniel Wu himself. Across its three-season run, the show earned praise for blending epic wuxia-style action with character-driven drama, standing out as one of the most visually ambitious genre series of the past decade.
