Disney+ has unleashed the trailer for its upcoming animated miniseries, ‘Marvel Zombies‘, arriving this September. The four-episode event marks Marvel Studios Animation’s first mature-rated project and continues the story first introduced in What If…?, where Earth’s mightiest heroes succumbed to a gruesome zombie plague.
So, you survived the zombie apocalypse. Super. Now, who’s going to stop the Avengers from feasting on your brains? That is the premise of ‘Marvel Zombies’, which throws fans into a dystopian wasteland where a desperate band of survivors must uncover the key to stopping the undead before the entire world is consumed.
Created by Bryan Andrews and Zeb Wells, the series promises a darker, gorier twist on the MCU. Wells, known for his work on She-Hulk, The Marvels and Deadpool & Wolverine, serves as head writer, while Andrews directs following his work on What If…?. Executive producers include Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Dana Vasquez-Eberhardt, Bryan Andrews and Zeb Wells, with Danielle Costa and Carrie Wassenaar producing.
The voice cast sees a huge line-up of MCU stars returning to lend their voices. Elizabeth Olsen (WandaVision) reprises her role as Scarlet Witch, this time in fully zombified form. Paul Rudd (Ant-Man) is back with his disembodied head preserved in a jar, while Florence Pugh (Black Widow) returns as Yelena Belova. David Harbour (Stranger Things) joins as Red Guardian, Tessa Thompson (Thor: Ragnarok) as Valkyrie, and Simu Liu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) as Shang-Chi, battling infection with the Ten Rings. Awkwafina (Raya and the Last Dragon), Hailee Steinfeld (Hawkeye), Wyatt Russell (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), Randall Park (WandaVision), Iman Vellani (Ms. Marvel) and Dominique Thorne (Ironheart) are also confirmed, alongside Hudson Thames reprising his animated voice role of Peter Parker and Todd Williams debuting as Blade Knight, a haunting hybrid of Blade and Moon Knight.
Expect a blend of horror, dark humour, and plenty of gory action, all wrapped in a distinctive cel-shaded animation style that makes every zombie Avenger pop straight out of a comic panel.
