Prime Video has confirmed that its hit mystery thriller ‘We Were Liars‘ will return for a second season, continuing the dark and twisty drama based on E. Lockhart’s best-selling novel.
In season one, ‘We Were Liars’ introduced viewers to Cadence Sinclair Eastman and her close-knit group of friends, nicknamed the Liars, as they spent their summers on her wealthy family’s private New England island. The Sinclairs appeared to be the picture of American royalty, but after a mysterious accident turned Cadence’s life upside down, it became clear that everyone, even her beloved Liars, had secrets to hide.
Showrunners Julie Plec (The Vampire Diaries, Legacies) and Carina Adly MacKenzie (Roswell, New Mexico, The Originals) are once again steering the ship for season two. “We loved making this show with so many spectacular humans,” the duo said. “The fan response was truly special. There are still plenty of secrets buried on Beechwood Island and we can’t wait to keep digging them up.”
Author E. Lockhart teased that fans of her books should prepare for both familiarity and surprise: “MacKenzie and Plec have big, big plans for Season Two, including everything readers of my books are dying to see onscreen — and a lot of surprises as well.”
The first season starred Emily Alyn Lind (Gossip Girl) as Cadence, Shubham Maheshwari as Gat, Esther McGregor as Mirren, Joseph Zada as Johnny, alongside Caitlin FitzGerald (Succession), Mamie Gummer (True Detective), Candice King (The Vampire Diaries), Rahul Kohli (iZombie, Midnight Mass), and David Morse (The Green Mile).
Produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Universal Television, the series has quickly become one of Prime Video’s most talked-about YA thrillers, praised for its moody atmosphere and cliffhanger storytelling. Season two promises to dive even deeper into the secrets of Beechwood Island.
‘We Were Liars‘ Season 1 is available now on Prime Video. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
