‘Revival’: Sky Sets UK Premiere Date for Dark Supernatural Mystery

by Dave Elliott

Sky has set a UK premiere date for Revival, a haunting supernatural drama that asks what happens when death stops being permanent. The series, adapted from the cult Image Comics run by Tim Seeley and Mike Norton, first launched in the US earlier this year and arrives this October for UK audiences on Sky Max and NOW.

Set in the quiet rural town of Wausau, Wisconsin, everything changes when, on one miraculous day, the recently deceased rise from their graves. These aren’t your typical zombies shuffling about in search of brains. Instead, the so-called “Revivers” return looking and acting just as they once did, only now they possess regenerative healing powers that make them practically unkillable. For the townsfolk, the miracle quickly curdles into fear and suspicion, especially when a brutal murder rocks the already fragile community.

At the centre of it all is Deputy Dana Cypress, played by Melanie Scrofano (Wynonna Earp), a single mother forced to keep order while also investigating the growing number of strange incidents linked to the revived. Alongside her is her sister Em, portrayed by Romy Weltman (The Next Step), who must confront what it means to return from the grave and live with the unsettling consequences. David James Elliott (JAG) takes on the role of Sheriff Wayne Cypress, while Andy McQueen (Station Eleven) plays CDC scientist Dr. Ibrahim Ramin, drafted in to study the inexplicable phenomenon.

The series blends elements of horror, crime thriller, and family drama. Known locally as “Revival Day,” the resurrection event triggers a government quarantine, a mandatory registry for the returned, and simmering tensions between the living and the undead. The showrunners have described it as “rural noir,” combining small-town atmosphere with existential dread. While the setup might sound like a traditional zombie show, the execution is far closer to a mystery drama that just happens to feature people who don’t stay dead.

Behind the camera, Revival is brought to life by creators Aaron B. Koontz and Luke Boyce, who serve as showrunners and executive producers. They’re joined by an impressive producing team that includes Melanie Scrofano herself, Greg Hemmings, Amanda Row, Stephen Foster, Lance Samuels, Daniel Iron, Samantha Levine, and Daniel March. Production took place in Canada, with New Brunswick doubling for the snowy rural landscapes of Wisconsin, giving the series a stark, eerie beauty.

The show originally premiered on SYFY in the United States back in June and has been warmly received by critics. Reviewers praised its grounded tone and fresh spin on resurrection tales, describing it as a character-driven thriller with a creepy, slow-burn atmosphere. Scrofano’s performance as Dana has been singled out for particular acclaim, anchoring the series with both grit and emotional weight.

For fans of the original comic, the series keeps close to its roots but isn’t afraid to shuffle events and characters to build new tension for television. That means long-time readers will find plenty of familiar beats, but also surprises designed to keep them guessing. For newcomers, it’s a chance to dive into a world where the dead walk, but the bigger mystery is what it does to the living.

Revival’ Season 1 premieres Sunday, 12th October 2025 at 10pm on Sky Max and streaming on NOW.
