Production has officially begun on ‘Pride and Prejudice’, the new six-part Netflix adaptation from bestselling author Dolly Alderton (Everything I Know About Love) and director Euros Lyn (Heartstopper). The series promises to breathe new life into Jane Austen’s classic tale, with a cast full of award winners and rising stars.
Leading the drama, Emma Corrin (Nosferatu, Black Mirror) takes on the role of Elizabeth Bennet, alongside Jack Lowden (Slow Horses, Benediction) as Mr. Darcy, and Olivia Colman (The Favourite, The Crown) as the formidable Mrs. Bennet.
Joining the Bennet household are Rufus Sewell (The Diplomat, Scoop) as Mr. Bennet, Freya Mavor (Industry, La Dame Dans L’Auto Avec des Lunettes et un Fusil) as Jane, Rhea Norwood (Heartstopper, Cabaret) as Lydia, and newcomers Hopey Parish and Hollie Avery as Mary and Kitty.
Among the suitors, Jamie Demetriou (Stath Lets Flats, Barbie) stars as Mr. Collins, Daryl McCormack (Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, Good Luck to You, Leo Grande) as Mr. Bingley, and Louis Partridge (House of Guinness, Disclaimer) as the ever-charming Mr. Wickham. Siena Kelly (Black Mirror, Domino Day) takes on the role of Caroline Bingley, while Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) plays the imperious Lady Catherine de Bourgh.
The supporting cast is equally stacked, including Anjana Vasan (We Are Lady Parts), Sebastian Armesto (Gangs of London), Rosie Cavaliero (KAOS), Saffron Coomber (Three Little Birds), James Dryden (Deadpool & Wolverine), Justin Edwards (The Thick of It), James Northcote (The Last Kingdom), Eloise Webb (The Queen’s Gambit), and Isabella Sermon (Jurassic World: Dominion).
Speaking about the project, Alderton said:
“Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy — it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life. The book is a gift to adapt — packed with drama and depth as well as comedy and charm.”
Meanwhile, Corrin called playing Elizabeth Bennet “a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” adding:
“To be able to bring this iconic character to life, alongside Olivia and Jack, with Dolly’s phenomenal scripts, is truly the greatest honor. I can’t wait for a new generation to fall in love with this story all over again.”
Behind the scenes, Alderton and Lyn are executive producing alongside Laura Lankester, Will Johnston, and Louise Mutter for Lookout Point, with Corrin taking on their first executive producer credit. Lisa Osborne (Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light) serves as producer, while Mona Qureshi at Netflix described the show as “the ultimate romantic comedy” and praised Alderton’s “fierce intelligence and enormous heart.”
