Channel 5 Orders Two More Seasons Of Yorkshire Favourite ‘All Creatures Great and Small’

by Dave Elliott

You can practically hear the cows mooing in celebration across the Dales, as All Creatures Great and Small prepares to trot back to Channel 5 for not one but two more seasons. The treasured drama will return with Series 7 and Series 8, each running for six episodes plus Christmas Specials, continuing its reign as one of the most comforting slices of British TV around.

The renewal cemented the show as 5’s crown jewel. Across its first five series, it reached more than 14 million viewers and kept the channel at the top of the ratings. Series 5 alone pulled in 6.2 million, while 5 Streaming crowned it their top drama commission of 2024. Series 6 arrived this autumn, whisking viewers back to the Yorkshire Dales as the story jumped ahead to 1945, reuniting beloved characters against the backdrop of a world emerging from war.

While UK fans have already settled in with the newest chapter, US audiences will be catching up when MASTERPIECE airs Season 6 from Sunday, 11th January 2026.

Behind the scenes, the new commissions bring back an impressive power team. Playground returns to produce, along with MASTERPIECE and All3Media International. Executive Producers for Series 7 include Colin Callender, Melissa Gallant, Sharon Moran, writer Neil Jones, Susanne Simpson for MASTERPIECE, and representatives from All3Media and Channel 5. Yvonne Francas once again steps in as Producer.

Commissioning Editor Greg Barnett summed up the mood:
“All Creatures Great and Small is a jewel in 5’s drama crown and continues to delight viewers year after year. Its warmth, humour and heart, set against the beauty of Yorkshire, have made it a firm audience favourite. We’re thrilled to extend its future with two more series, with many new stories still to tell and more unforgettable adventures ahead for our Skeldale family.”

Playground’s Melissa Gallant and Sharon Moran added:
“We frequently receive letters from viewers about how the show has brought joy, comfort and relief in challenging times. Making television that has that effect and is beloved around the world year after year is the greatest privilege, and we’re thrilled to be continuing the All Creatures journey with 5, Masterpiece on PBS and All3Media International into series 7 and 8. It’s a show which people love to watch and love to make and we can’t wait for more adventures in beautiful Yorkshire with our wonderful cast and crew.”

MASTERPIECE’s Susanne Simpson continued the praise:
“All Creatures Great and Small has found its way into the hearts of American audiences and is one of our most watched series on MASTERPIECE. I’m thrilled to bring more seasons of the warmth, hope and humor that make this series so special to MASTERPIECE PBS.”

All3Media International’s Lauren Jackson added:
“Audiences around the world will be thrilled to hear the news of two further series of this heartwarming and enduringly popular series, produced impeccably by Playground for 5 and MASTERPIECE PBS.”

The show’s appeal has remained tied to the enduring charm of James Herriot’s original books, which have sold over 60 million copies globally. With two more series now on the way, the tales of life at Skeldale House look set to continue enchanting viewers for years to come.

Further details for Seasons 7 and 8 will be revealed in the future. For now, viewers can stream Seasons 1 to 6 on 5, with the 2025 Christmas Special arriving later this year.
