HBO Hands Second Seasons To Bold Comedies ‘The Chair Company’ And ‘I Love LA’

HBO is keeping the laughs rolling as the network confirms that The Chair Company and I Love LA will both return for second seasons. The announcement arrived during a press presentation in New York City, where Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO, HBO and HBO Max Content, praised the breakout success of the two freshman comedies. In the UK, both shows aired their first seasons on Sky Comedy and NOW, although it is not yet known whether Season 2 will also land there or shift to HBO Max when the streamer launches next year.

Bloys revealed that ‘The Chair Company’ is currently pacing as HBO’s top freshman comedy in platform history, pulling in an average of 3.3 million viewers across the first three days of release in the United States. Meanwhile, ‘I Love LA’ has rapidly grown its audience and now ranks as HBO’s second strongest freshman comedy, drawing nearly 2 million viewers (L+3) across platforms.

Amy Gravitt, EVP, HBO Programming, Head of HBO & HBO Max Comedy Series, added: “We’re thrilled by the incredible response to THE CHAIR COMPANY and I LOVE LA debuts. Both shows confidently carry on the HBO comedy tradition in their own singular way. We couldn’t be happier to continue collaborating with Tim, Zach, Rachel, and their exceptional teams.”

The critical love has been loud too. ‘The Chair Company’ boasts a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score and has been hailed as everything from “absurdly funny” to “delightfully unhinged”. TV Guide praised it as “the funniest show of the year”, while Decider declared it “an absolute triumph”. ‘I Love LA’ also arrives certified fresh, with reviewers calling it sharp, stylish, and wonderfully chaotic.

In ‘The Chair Company’, Tim Robinson (I Think You Should Leave) stars as William Ronald Trosper, a man whose workplace embarrassment sends him spiralling into a conspiracy of wonderfully odd proportions. The cast includes Lake Bell (Harley Quinn), Sophia Lillis (Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves), Will Price (Chad), Joseph Tudisco (The Blacklist), and recurring appearances from Lou Diamond Phillips (Prodigal Son). The series comes from Tim Robinson and Zach Kanin, with executive producers including Adam McKay and Todd Schulman.

‘I Love LA’, created by and starring Rachel Sennott (Bottoms), follows a group of friends tackling life, ambition, and messy relationships in Los Angeles. The cast features Jordan Firstman (Cora Bora), Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games), Odessa A’zion (Hellraiser), and True Whitaker (Godfather of Harlem). Season one packed in an impressive roster of guest stars, from Ayo Edebiri (The Bear) to Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings), and is executive produced by Sennott alongside Emma Barrie, Aida Rodgers, Max Silvestri, and Lorene Scafaria.

There is currently no UK premiere information for either returning series.

The Chair Company‘ Season 2 and ‘I Love LA‘  Season 2 do not yet have premiere dates but will air on a UK broadcaster to be confirmed (either Sky/NOW or HBO Max when it launches here).
