ITV has unveiled a brand new trailer confirming that ‘Red Eye‘ will touch down this January, with the action picking up for a second season of conspiracies, political pressure and rising body counts. Jing Lusi’s DS Hana Li is back in the thick of it, and it looks like the turbulence is only just beginning.
The new season once again drops Hana into a high-stakes international nightmare. Inside the US Embassy in London, celebrations for a newly appointed US Ambassador are violently disrupted when a threat comes in. If anyone leaves the building, a British plane will be blown out of the sky. The lockdown triggers chaos behind closed doors, and then the murders begin.
Hana is dragged into the investigation as a British police officer caught in the middle of a political and jurisdictional mess. Forced to team up with the Head of Embassy Security, Clay Brody, played by Martin Compston (Line of Duty), she must confront a colleague who once screwed her over. Trust is off the table, time is running out, and the situation turns personal when the targeted plane is revealed to be a government jet carrying MI5 Director General Madeline Delaney.
The trailer teases a frantic race to uncover who is behind the embassy killings and the wider plot before both the hostages inside and the passengers in the air run out of time. Returning cast includes Lesley Sharp as Delaney and Jemma Moore as journalist Jess Li. Also back are Jonathan Aris (His Dark Materials), Robert Guilbert (Killing Eve), Cash Holland (The Completely Made Up Adventures of Duck Turpin) and Steph Lacey (Doctor Who).
Season 2 expands the world with new faces joining the conspiracy, including Isaura Barbe-Brown (Guilt), Nicholas Rowe (The Crown), Danusia Samal (The Great), Trevor White (Industry) and Guy Williams (The White Princess).
The series once again comes from Bad Wolf, with Peter A Dowling crafting the thriller. Jingan Young returns to write an episode. Kieron Hawkes directs the opening three episodes, with Camilla Strøm Henriksen directing episodes four to six.
The first season launched last year to more than 8 million viewers and reached 29.3m streams on ITVX, which secured ‘Red Eye’ a place among ITV’s top ten dramas of 2024.
‘Red Eye’ Season 2 premieres Wednesday, 1st January 2026 on ITV1, STV and ITVX.
