ITV is lining up another dark mystery for fans of tense, character-driven thrillers as they commission ‘Gone‘, a psychological drama starring Eve Myles (The Crow Girl, Hijack, Torchwood) and David Morrissey (The Long Shadow, Sherwood, Britannia). The series is coming to ITV1, STV, ITVX and STV Player, with filming taking place around Bristol and a private school that holds far too many secrets for anyone’s comfort.
Created and written by George Kay, the mind behind Lupin, Hijack and The Long Shadow, ‘Gone’ dives into the disappearance of Sarah Polly and the question that quickly grips the community. Is her husband, respected headmaster Michael Polly, hiding something or is this a case where the most obvious suspect is not the right one at all?
Michael is played by David Morrissey, who brings his trademark steeliness to a man who values control and order. Things begin to unravel after Detective Annie Cassidy gets involved, played by Eve Myles, who can outstare a statue and refuses to let evasive answers slide. What follows is a cat-and-mouse investigation where the tension sits just under the skin.
As Eve Myles puts it:
“I’m thrilled to be playing Detective Annie Cassidy in George Kay’s brilliantly written drama Gone. Annie is a fascinating character, intuitive, gutsy and doesn’t suffer fools, but she has met her match in Michael Polly who is a formidable adversary played by David Morrissey. It’s wonderful to be directed by Richard Laxton, and I can’t wait for the audience to see it.”
David Morrissey adds:
“I’m delighted to be reunited with George Kay and the wonderful team at New Pictures. And to be working for the first time with the amazing Eve Myles and Richard Laxton.”
Alongside the investigation, ‘Gone’ explores the hidden legacy of elite institutions, the mechanics of trust, and the damage that trauma leaves behind. Michael and Sarah’s daughter, Alana, played by Emma Appleton (The Road Trip, The Killing Kind, Lola), works at the school, pulling the family even closer to the heart of the mystery.
The supporting cast includes Jennifer Macbeth, Arthur Hughes, Nicholas Nunn, Elliot Cowan, Billy Barrett, Rupert Evans, Jodie McNee, Oscar Batterham and Clare Higgins.
ITV’s Director of Drama, Polly Hill, is confident audiences will be hooked.
“I am so delighted to be working with George, Willow, and Richard on this brilliant new police procedure. Gone is a wonderful new drama which puts Detective Annie Cassidy, played by Eve Myles, up against Michael Polly, played by David Morrissey, the prime suspect in the case of his missing wife. Did he do it? The amazing team on and off screen make a beautifully compelling story and one that I am sure will keep the audience guessing.”
George Kay says the story draws on real investigative experience and research.
“After teaming up with ITV and New Pictures for true crime drama The Long Shadow, I’m delighted to be working with them again to create a new police drama. Inspired by real-life research, Gone sees the excellent Eve Myles’s overlooked Detective Annie Cassidy go head-to-head with main suspect Michael Polly, played by the superb David Morrissey. In a story about privilege and prejudice, the truth is tantalisingly close. Or at least, that’s what Annie thinks…”
The six part series is directed by BAFTA winner Richard Laxton and produced by New Pictures and George Kay’s Observatory Pictures, with All3Media International handling global distribution. The series is partly inspired by the book “To Hunt a Killer” and the work of former Detective Superintendent Julie Mackay and ITV Crime Correspondent Robert Murphy, who both serve as consultants.
‘Gone‘ does not yet have a premiere date but will air on ITV in the UK. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss
