Sky has pulled back the curtain on its spectacular reimagining of ‘Amadeus‘, a five-part event series arriving this December on Sky and NOW. It is a lavish, operatic dive into genius, rivalry and vengeance, adapted from Peter Shaffer’s award-winning play and brought to life by a cast who look ready to chew the scenery in the best possible way.
Leading the charge is Will Sharpe (Giri/Haji, The White Lotus) as Wolfgang ‘Amadeus’ Mozart, playing the composer as an 18th-century rockstar whose brilliance comes with plenty of chaos attached. Opposite him, Paul Bettany (WandaVision, A Very British Scandal) steps into the shoes of Antonio Salieri, a devout court composer whose envy curdles into a decades-long obsession. Gabrielle Creevy (In My Skin, Black Doves) rounds out the central trio as Constanze Weber, Mozart’s fiercely loyal wife who stands by him through every scandal, symphony and sleepless night.
Adapted for television by Joe Barton (Black Doves, Giri/Haji, The Lazarus Project), the series explores Mozart’s rise through the vibrant streets and glittering concert halls of 18th-century Vienna. When twenty-five-year-old Amadeus arrives seeking creative freedom, he collides with Constanze and Salieri, setting off a chain of events that spirals from artistic rivalry to personal vendetta. Salieri’s growing torment builds across three turbulent decades, leading to a murder confession and a desperate attempt to stitch himself into Mozart’s legacy.
The supporting cast features Rory Kinnear (The Diplomat, Skyfall) as Emperor Joseph, Lucy Cohu (Becoming Jane) as Cecilia Weber, Jonathan Aris (The Sixth Commandment) as Leopold Mozart, Ényì Okoronkwo (Renegade Nell, The Lazarus Project) as Da Ponte, Jessica Alexander (The Little Mermaid) as Katerina, Hugh Sachs (Bridgerton) as Von Strack, Paul Bazely (Such Brave Girls) as Von Swieten, Rupert Vansittart (Game of Thrones) as Rosenberg, Anastasia Martin (In From The Cold) as Aloysia Weber, Nancy Farino (Masters of the Air) as Josepha Weber, Olivia-Mai Barrett (Invasion) as Sophie Weber, Viola Prettejohn (The Crown) as Princess Elizabeth and Jyuddah Jaymes (The Boys in The Boat, Hijack) as Franz Süssmayr.
‘Amadeus’ is produced by Two Cities Television for Sky in association with Sky Studios, with executive producers across Two Cities, Sky Studios and the creative team including Barton, Sharpe, Bettany and director Julian Farino. Alice Seabright also directs and joins as co-executive producer. NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution handles international sales.
‘Amadeus’ premieres Sunday, 21st December 2025 on Sky and NOW.
