MGM+ is heading back to the Old West with a brand-new series adaptation of ‘The Magnificent Seven’, reimagining the iconic MGM Western as an eight-episode drama for the streaming service.
Set in the turbulent 1880s American frontier, ‘The Magnificent Seven’ centres on a peaceful Quaker village brutally attacked by mercenaries hired by a ruthless land baron determined to drive them from land he covets. In desperation, the community turns to seven gifted but deeply flawed mercenaries to protect them from further violence.
As the Seven embed themselves within the village and prepare to defend it against overwhelming odds, the series introduces a compelling moral tension at its heart. Is violence ever acceptable when defending a people whose faith is rooted in non-violence? The show will explore the backstories of each of the Seven, what is driving them, and why they choose to take on a mission that may cost them everything. Like the original film, the series leans into themes of honour, sacrifice, redemption, faith, and the true cost of courage.
The drama comes from Tim Kring (Heroes, Touch), who will write and executive produce the series. He is joined by executive producer Donald De Line (Billy the Kid, Foster Dade), alongside Lawrence Mirisch and Bruce Kaufman. The project is produced by MGM+ Studios and MGM Television Studios, with production currently targeted to begin in June 2026.

The original 1960 film ‘The Magnificent Seven’, produced by The Mirisch Company and released by United Artists, became a cultural landmark and helped redefine the Western genre for a new generation. This new take aims to honour that legacy while giving it a deeper, character-driven television treatment.
‘The Magnificent Seven’ will stream on MGM+ in the US and UK, as well as Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Germany, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, and Chile.
