Geektown Awards – Best New & Returning Comedy 2025

by Dave Elliott

As we continue to reveal the results of the Geektown Awards 2025, it’s time to turn our attention to comedy. As ever, this proved to be one of the most competitive areas of the vote, with a wide mix of returning favourites and brand-new series all battling it out for the top spots.

Once again, a reminder that every category in the Geektown Awards is voted for by visitors to this site, not selected by us, which makes the results a fascinating snapshot of what people genuinely enjoyed watching over the past year.

We start with Best New Comedy, before moving on to Best Returning Comedy.

Best New Comedy Series

Nominees:
Amandaland, Season 1 – BBC One
Film Club, Season 1 – BBC Three
How Are You? It’s Alan Partridge, Season 1 – BBC One
Mid-Century Modern, Season 1 – Disney+
Mitchell & Webb Are Not Helping, Season 1 – Channel 4
Overcompensating, Season 1 – Prime Video
Riot Women, Season 1 – BBC One
Stick – Apple TV
The Chair Company, Season 1 – Sky Comedy
The Studio, Season 1 – Apple TV

Bronze: Mitchell & Webb Are Not Helping, Season 1 – Channel 4
Silver: Riot Women, Season 1 – BBC One

Gold Winner: Amandaland, Season 1 – BBC One

The BBC dominated this category, but it was Amandaland that ultimately took the top spot.

A sharp, confident debut, the comedy struck a chord with Geektown readers thanks to its strong ensemble cast and distinctly British sensibility. While there was plenty of competition from both established comedy names and streaming originals, Amandaland emerged as the clear favourite in a crowded field.

Close behind were Riot Women, another strong BBC showing, and Mitchell & Webb Are Not Helping, which proved that the duo’s return still holds plenty of appeal.

Best Returning Comedy Series

Nominees:
A Man on the Inside, Season 2 – Netflix
Brassic, Season 7 (Final) – Sky Max
Changing Ends, Season 3 – ITVX
Hacks, Season 4 – Sky Max
Here We Go, Season 3 – BBC One
Juice, Season 2 – BBC Three
Mythic Quest, Season 4 – Apple TV
Shrinking, Season 2 – Apple TV
Only Murders in the Building, Season 5 – Disney+
What We Do in the Shadows, Season 6 (Final) – Disney+

Bronze: What We Do in the Shadows, Season 6 (Final) – Disney+
Silver: Brassic, Season 7 (Final) – Sky Max

Gold Winner: Only Murders in the Building, Season 5 – Disney+

After narrowly missing out on the top spot last year, Only Murders in the Building finally claims gold in the 2025 Geektown Awards.

Now in its fifth season, the comedy-mystery continues to strike a rare balance between humour, character, and genuinely engaging storytelling, and it’s clearly built up enough goodwill with viewers to see it over the line this time around.

Meanwhile, Brassic puts in a hugely impressive showing in its final season, following last year’s tied win with another podium finish, while What We Do in the Shadows rounds things out with a well-earned bronze as it takes its final bow. Together, the top three feel like a celebration of long-running comedies that have managed to evolve without losing what made them special in the first place.

Taken together, these results underline just how broad comedy television has become, with traditional broadcasters, streamers, and long-running favourites all sharing the spotlight.

More Geektown Awards 2025 results are coming very soon, as we continue to count down the shows, films, and games that made the biggest impact on Geektown readers this year.
