As we head towards a brand-new year, it’s time to wrap up 2025 with the results of this year’s Geektown Awards! The past 12 months have delivered another outstanding year for television, film, and video games, and judging by the results, there were plenty of tough decisions for people voting across all the categories.
Before we dive into the awards themselves, I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who took the time to vote this year. As always, these awards are voted for entirely by visitors to Geektown, not picked by us, and that’s what makes the results so interesting year after year.
With that said, we kick things off, as tradition dictates, with Best New Drama and Best Returning Drama.

Gold Winner: Dexter: Resurrection, Season 1 – Paramount+
This was one of the tightest races in this year’s awards, with the top three shows separated by just a couple of percentage points. In the end, however, it was Dexter: Resurrection that edged out the competition to take the gold.
A continuation that many viewers approached with cautious optimism, the revival clearly struck a chord with Geektown voters. Rather than trading purely on nostalgia, Dexter: Resurrection managed to convince audiences that the story of the infamous serial killer still had something worthwhile to say, earning it just enough support to claim the top spot.
Close behind were Netflix’s Dept. Q, a moody and compelling adaptation of Jussi Adler-Olsen’s crime novels, and the glossy, modern thriller Black Doves. Together, the top three perfectly reflect what a strong year 2025 was for new drama, with no single show completely dominating the field.

Gold Winner: Blue Lights, Season 3 – BBC
In a category packed with established heavy-hitters, it was the BBC’s Blue Lights that emerged victorious.
Now in its third season, the Belfast-set police drama continues to grow in confidence and impact, blending tense storytelling with richly drawn characters and a grounded sense of place. The result is a series that has clearly built a loyal following, strong enough to see it beat off competition from global streaming giants and long-running favourites alike.
Apple TV’s Slow Horses once again put in an impressive showing, narrowly missing out on the top spot, while Wednesday continues to prove that it’s far more than a one-season phenomenon.
These two categories together underline just how competitive television has become, with returning favourites holding their ground while new dramas arrive fully formed and ready to challenge them.
