‘Black Mirror’ Renewed For Season 8 As Charlie Brooker Teases “More Black Mirror Than Ever”

by Dave Elliott

Netflix has officially renewed Black Mirror for Season 8, with creator Charlie Brooker confirming the show’s return in a new interview with Netflix’s Tudum.

Speaking as the series comes off the back of major awards recognition for Season 7, Brooker made it clear the dark anthology still has plenty of life left in it.

“Black Mirror will return, and hopefully it’ll be more Black Mirror than ever.”

The renewal follows a strong Season 7 reception, which saw the show earn Golden Globe nominations for Best Television Limited Series or Anthology, alongside acting nods for Rashida Jones and Paul Giamatti for their work in the episodes “Common People” and “Eulogy”.

Brooker admitted the recognition caught him slightly off guard, joking in typical fashion:

“It was a pleasant surprise and an honor. I mean, obviously, I don’t experience human emotion, but as much as I can emulate it, I was pleased.”

Season 7 proved to be one of the show’s most emotionally varied runs yet, with Brooker singling out both “Common People” and “Eulogy” as episodes that pushed the series into especially powerful territory.

“I am really proud of ‘Common People.’ I think that it’s haunting, and it’s vicious as a piece of satire.

‘Eulogy,’ I think, is one of my favorite Black Mirrors of all time. It’s heartbroken in tone, but it’s kind of beautiful.”

He also noted that provoking strong emotional reactions remains central to the show’s DNA, even as it experiments with structure and tone.

“Getting a big emotional reaction from viewers is great. We also have the more playful side of things across the season. We managed to gaslight viewers in ‘Bête Noire’.”

Looking ahead, Brooker confirmed that work on future stories is already underway, suggesting Season 8 will continue the show’s long tradition of reflecting an increasingly uncomfortable present.

“Luckily it does have a future, so I can confirm that Black Mirror will return, just in time for reality to catch up with it.”

Netflix has not yet announced when Season 8 will begin production or when it might land on the streamer.
