Prime Video has officially ordered ‘Dirty‘, a new UK Original crime thriller from Matt Charman (Bridge of Spies, Treason, Hostage), setting up a tense, emotionally charged police drama that leans hard into family loyalty, moral compromise, and the slow rot of power.
The series comes from Charman’s production company Binocular, and will stream exclusively on Prime Video worldwide. Production is scheduled to begin in September 2026 in the UK.
At the centre of the story is trainee detective Eva Bennett, who returns to Manchester and finds herself working a homicide investigation led by her estranged mother, the formidable Detective Chief Inspector Lois Mercer. As the case unfolds, Eva begins to uncover evidence of her mother’s own crimes, forcing her into an impossible collision between justice and blood. It is framed as a psychological cat-and-mouse, but one where both hunters are deeply compromised.
Charman, who also serves as showrunner, has built a reputation for tightly wound thrillers driven by character rather than spectacle, and Dirty appears very much in that mould. The focus is less on procedure and more on the cost of authority when power sits too long in the same hands.
Nicole Clemens, Vice President of International Originals at Amazon MGM Studios, said:
“Having long admired Matt’s exceptional work, I am thrilled we are collaborating with him on this remarkable project. Centered on two extraordinarily powerful women, it delivers the bold, character-driven storytelling that Global Prime Video audiences have come to expect, and we look forward to sharing it with viewers around the world.”
Charman added:
“I love the power and the volatility of these two women. There are no limits on what either of them is capable of, which makes the potential of every scene explosive. Nicole and the entire team at Amazon understood the show instantly — they’re deeply passionate about the blend of character-driven drama and relentless propulsion. I can’t wait to share what we’ve been cooking up.”
The series is executive produced by Foz Allan, with Charman creating and writing the show. While no casting has yet been announced, the mother-daughter dynamic at the heart of the story suggests two heavyweight roles that could attract serious talent.
With production set to begin later this year, ‘Dirty‘ is firmly moving forward as a full series order for Prime Video, marking another high-profile UK Original for the streamer’s growing drama slate.
‘Dirty‘ will air on Prime Video in the UK and internationally, but does not yet have a premiere date. If I want to keep track of this or any other shows, I can add them via our Never Miss system, and I’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
