Alan Carr Goes Castle Hunting For New Disney+ Series ‘Castle Man’

by Dave Elliott

Castle Man (working title) will see Alan Carr embark on one of the most ambitious projects of his life, as Disney+ follows the comedian on a real-life quest to buy and run a historic castle. The new unscripted series is currently filming in Scotland and is set to land on Disney+ at a later date.

After decades spent moving from the comedy circuit to TV studios and becoming one of the UK’s most recognisable entertainers, Carr is approaching his 50th birthday and taking stock of what comes next. Rather than a sports car or a dramatic haircut, he has set his sights on something a little more… medieval. The series will track his search for a castle he can genuinely call home, and the realities of turning that romantic dream into a functioning way of life.

Produced by Expectation, the award-winning company behind Clarkson’s Farm and Alma’s Not Normal, the Hulu Original series will follow Carr as he explores grand properties, weighs up the practical challenges, and decides whether castle living is truly for him. Inspired in part by his time at The Traitors’ castle, this is not about a short stay or a novelty visit, but a full commitment to life behind the drawbridge.

Alan Carr said,
“Some men when they have a midlife crisis buy a Lamborghini or grow a ponytail, but me – I want my very own castle. Since I was a boy in Northampton, I’ve always dreamt big, and have always been enchanted with the history and romance of a stately home and as I turn fifty, I feel it’s my time. All I want is a turret to call my own – get me over that drawbridge!”

Ben Wicks, Creative Director, Entertainment at Expectation and executive producer, added,
“What an incredible project: Alan Carr looking to buy a castle befitting his status as comedy royalty and a national treasure, and soon finding himself responsible for the very real, right royal pain of making it all work. We’re delighted to be following Alan’s dramatic – and undoubtedly hilarious – journey and doing so with Disney who thankfully have a great deal more history with castles.”

Sean Doyle, vice president, unscripted, Disney+, commented,
“Alan Carr is one of those rare talents who brings instant warmth, wit, and originality to everything he touches. We’ve watched him turn his hand to stand-up,gameshows, podcast, and presenting, but when we discovered he was looking to purchase a castle to run, we knew this was a journey we had to follow. Expect Alan in new territory, with all the same riotous entertainment you know and love.”

‘Castle Man’ is executive produced by Peter Fincham and Ben Wicks for Expectation, alongside Claire Walls and Danny Julian, with Carr also serving as an executive producer. The series was commissioned for Disney+ in the UK by Angela Jain, head of content, and Sean Doyle, vp unscripted, EMEA.

Castle Man’ does not yet have a premiere date but will air on Disney+ in the UK. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
