Dalziel and Pascoe is officially heading back to UK screens, with ITV confirmed as the domestic partner on a fresh, contemporary reimagining of the iconic British detective series, commissioned by BritBox.
Based on the novels by Reginald Hill, the new six-part drama revisits the uneasy but compelling partnership between seasoned detective Dalziel and newly qualified, by-the-book DS Pascoe. As before, the heart of the story lies in the friction between two very different approaches to policing, blending sharp wit with humanity and character-driven crime storytelling.
ITV’s Director of Drama, Polly Hill, and Commissioner and Head of Scripted Comedy, Nana Hughes, have worked with BritBox on the series, with Hughes overseeing the production on behalf of ITV. The drama is being produced by West Road Pictures, part of All3Media, whose previous credits include ‘Ridley’, ‘Blood’ and ‘Hollington Drive’.
The original ‘Dalziel and Pascoe’ adaptation ran for 12 series between 1996 and 2007, starring Warren Clarke and Colin Buchanan, becoming a staple of British crime television. This new version aims to honour that legacy while sharpening it for a modern audience.
The series is co-created for television by Colette Kane (‘Department Q’, ‘Vera’) and Daisy Martey (‘Vikings: Valhalla’), with additional writing from Chris Ryden and Jon Rowe, alongside Danusia Samal (‘Gangs of London’, ‘Bodies’). Kane also serves as lead writer and executive producer.
Direction on the six-part series comes from Isher Sahota (‘Run Away’, ‘Missing You’), with Juliet Charlesworth (‘After The Flood’, ‘Happy Valley’) producing. Executive producers for West Road Pictures include Jonathan Fisher, Ellie Birnie and Ingrid Goodwin.
Speaking about the project, Nana Hughes said:
“It’s a genuine privilege to bring Reginald Hill’s much-loved Dalziel and Pascoe back to the screen for a new audience. At the heart of this series is the enduring, unexpected chemistry between two very different detectives, and we’re excited to explore that new dynamic.”
The drama will air on ITV and STV in the UK, with streaming available via ITVX and STV Player. Internationally, the series will stream on BritBox in the US and Canada, with All3Media International handling global distribution.
Filming is set to begin in spring 2026 in the North of England.
