Apple TV Sets April Return for ‘Criminal Record’ Season 2 With Peter Capaldi & Cush Jumbo

Apple TV has unveiled a first-look image and confirmed the return of Criminal Record, with the critically acclaimed crime thriller coming back for its second season this April.

The London-set drama stars Peter Capaldi (Doctor Who, The Thick Of It) and Cush Jumbo (The Good Fight, Deadwater Fell), both of whom also serve as executive producers on the series. Season two once again dives into the murky space where policing, politics, and truth collide.

Created by Paul Rutman, ‘Criminal Record’ is a character-driven thriller set in contemporary London, examining how justice unravels when competing narratives and power structures clash. In the new season, the stabbing of a young man at a political rally forces rival officers Detective Sergeant June Lenker and Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Hegarty into an uneasy alliance.

What begins as a murder investigation soon escalates into something far more dangerous, pulling the pair into an undercover operation to prevent a far-right bomb plot at the heart of the capital. As with the first season, moral ambiguity and institutional pressure sit front and centre.

Season two reunites Capaldi and Jumbo in their lead roles, with the cast also including Dustin Demri-Burns (Slow Horses), Luca Pasqualino (The Musketeers), Luther Ford (The Crown), Lyndsey Marshal (Years and Years), and Peter Sullivan (The Borgias). Returning cast members include Shaun Dooley (Happy Valley), Stephen Campbell Moore (War of the Worlds), and Charlie Creed-Miles (Peaky Blinders).

The series is produced for Apple TV by Tod Productions and STV Studios, with Rutman executive producing alongside Capaldi, Jumbo, and Elaine Collins. Direction duties are handled by Ben A. Williams and Joelle Mae David.

Criminal Record’ Season 2 premieres Wednesday, 22nd April 2026 on Apple TV.
