‘Cape Fear’: Apple TV Sets June Launch for Javier Bardem & Amy Adams Thriller Series

by Dave Elliott

Apple TV has confirmed that Cape Fear will make its global debut this June, bringing a dark, psychological thriller reimagining of the classic story to the streamer. The limited series comes from creator and showrunner Nick Antosca, with heavyweight backing from executive producers Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg.

The series stars Javier Bardem as the terrifying Max Cady, opposite Amy Adams, who also serves as an executive producer. The story centres on married attorneys Anna and Tom Bowden, whose lives begin to unravel when Cady, a killer they helped put behind bars, is released from prison and sets out on a calculated quest for vengeance.

Inspired by the 1991 film directed by Scorsese and produced by Spielberg, the new adaptation also traces its roots back to the novel The Executioners, which previously inspired the 1962 Universal Pictures movie. This version expands the premise into a 10-episode limited series, leaning hard into psychological horror and moral unease rather than straightforward thriller beats.

Alongside Bardem and Adams, the ensemble cast includes Patrick Wilson (The Conjuring), CCH Pounder (The Shield), Jamie Hector (Bosch), Anna Baryshnikov (Dickinson), plus Joe Anders, Lily Collias and Malia Pyles. The pilot is directed by Morten Tyldum (The Imitation Game), who also executive produces.

Cape Fear’ premieres Friday, 5th June 2026 on Apple TV, with the first two episodes, followed by weekly episodes every Friday through to the end of July.
