ITVX Picks Up Groundbreaking Deaf-Led Drama ‘This Close’ For UK Release This March

by Dave Elliott

ITV has announced it has acquired acclaimed US drama This Close, which will stream exclusively on ITVX this March, bringing the landmark Deaf-created series to UK audiences for the first time.

Created by and starring Shoshannah Stern (Supernatural) and Josh Feldman, ‘This Close’ is widely regarded as a milestone in television representation. The first season was created, written by and starring Deaf creatives, marking a major step forward for authentic on-screen storytelling.

Across its two-season run, the series follows best friends Kate and Michael, both Deaf, as they navigate the messy, complicated realities of adulthood in Los Angeles. Relationships, work, love, identity and independence all come under the microscope in a show that balances emotional honesty with quiet humour. Stern and Feldman also appear on screen, bringing lived experience directly into the storytelling.

On its original release via Sundance Now and SundanceTV, the drama was praised for its originality, sensitivity and the space it created for underrepresented voices. Produced by Super Deluxe in association with Killer Films and distributed internationally by AMC Networks International, the series has since been recognised as an important cultural touchstone in modern TV.

With ITVX continuing to build out its catalogue of distinctive international dramas, ‘This Close’ adds something genuinely different to the platform’s line-up, offering a deeply personal and nuanced look at communication, friendship and adulthood through an authentically Deaf lens.

This Close’ Seasons 1 & 2 premiere Thursday, 12th March 2026 on ITVX in the UK.
