The BBC has released first-look images from ‘Two Weeks in August’, a witty, sun-soaked new drama from writer and creator Catherine Shepherd, headed to BBC iPlayer and BBC One soon.
Produced by Various Artists Limited, the award-winning company behind I May Destroy You and Such Brave Girls, the eight-part series follows a group of friends who reunite for a summer holiday in Greece. What begins as a much-needed escape quickly spirals into something far darker.
The newly released images tease both the beauty and the brewing chaos. Jessica Raine (The Devil’s Hour) plays Zoe, seen strolling through sun-drenched landscapes with Damien Molony (Brassic), and later perched atop a rocky vista in quiet contemplation. Antonia Thomas (The Good Doctor) relaxes poolside as Jess, while Nicholas Pinnock (For Life)’s Solomon cools off with a swim. Leila Farzad (Kaos) and Hugh Skinner (Fleabag) appear as Nat and Jacob, taking in the villa’s idyllic views, with the ensemble heading out to a party that promises to change everything.
Also starring are Dolly Wells (Dracula), Tom Goodman-Hill (Baby Reindeer), Dylan Brady (Mary & George), Maria Almeida (The Buccaneers), Khalil Gharbia (The Lost Boys), Florence Banks (The New Look), Sonny Poon Tip (Industry) and Cassius Hackforth (Doctor Who).
Set against the stunning backdrop of Greece, the drama centres on Zoe, who hopes the holiday will help her rediscover joy in her life. Instead, an illicit kiss sets off a chain of events that transforms paradise into something far more dangerous. As Zoe begins acting on her deepest desires, long-buried tensions rise to the surface.
When the group discover they are effectively trapped on the island and facing genuine life-or-death situations, friendships fracture. Accusations fly. Is Zoe truly to blame for the chaos unfolding around them, or are there bigger forces at play in the land of ancient gods?
The series is written by Catherine Shepherd (Sally4Ever, The Shrink Next Door), with Tom George (This Country, Sherwood) directing episodes one to four, and Matthew Moore (The Great, Colin from Accounts) directing episodes five to eight. Filming took place in Malta and Gozo with local production company Pellikola.
