Lucasfilm has dropped a brand new trailer for ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’, and yes, Din Djarin is very much back in action… and very much showing his face.
The first big-screen outing for the galaxy’s favourite helmeted bounty hunter and his tiny green apprentice arrives in cinemas this May, and the latest footage leans heavily into scale, spectacle and some surprisingly revealing moments for Pedro Pascal’s Mandalorian.
The evil Empire may have fallen, but Imperial warlords are still scattered across the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic tries to maintain order, they call on Din Djarin and Grogu to hunt down what remains of the old regime. The trailer promises Hutts, bounty hunters, alien fry cooks, returning Rebels favourites, and a whole lot of blaster fire.
Yes, That’s Pedro Pascal’s Face… Twice
For a character bound by creed to keep his helmet on, Din Djarin spends an eyebrow-raising amount of time unmasked in this trailer. We see Pedro Pascal’s face twice, which is roughly once more than we were accustomed to across large chunks of the TV series.
That is notable for a couple of reasons. While Pascal voices and embodies the role, much of the suited physical performance in the Disney+ series has often been handled by Brendan Wayne and stunt performer Lateef Crowder, particularly during heavy action sequences. This time around, Pascal appears far more front and centre, suggesting the film may lean harder into Din’s personal journey.
If nothing else, it is a reminder that beneath all that beskar armour is a very expressive actor.
A Turning Point For Lucasfilm
Beyond the blaster bolts and Baby Yoda chaos, there is some genuine industry significance here.
The Mandalorian and Grogu is the first theatrical release under Dave Filoni’s tenure as President and Chief Creative Officer of Lucasfilm, working alongside co-president Lynwen Brennan. The film itself was commissioned during Kathleen Kennedy’s time as President, before she stepped down earlier this year, formally handing the creative reins to Filoni.
For longtime fans, that shift carries weight. Filoni is a direct protégé of George Lucas and has been one of the key architects of modern Star Wars storytelling. He co-created ‘The Mandalorian’ with Jon Favreau and previously shepherded animated series such as ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ and ‘Star Wars: The Bad Batch’. In many ways, this film feels like the culmination of the Filoni era that began in animation and evolved into the streaming space.
Now it is stepping onto the biggest stage in cinema.
Familiar Faces And New Threats
The film is directed by Favreau, who also produces alongside Kennedy, Filoni and Ian Bryce. The score once again comes from Ludwig Göransson, whose work has been integral to the series’ distinct sound.
Joining Pascal and Grogu on this adventure are:
- Sigourney Weaver as Colonel Ward, a leader within the New Republic’s Adelphi Rangers and a former Rebel pilot.
- Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt, the son of Jabba.
- Steve Blum reprising Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios, now flying for the New Republic.
- Jonny Coyne as an Imperial Warlord.
The trailer also teases the return of Anzellans, a Kyuzo bounty hunter, and even an Ardennian fry cook, because this is Star Wars, and apparently every species gets a side hustle.
Favreau previously said, “I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created. The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”
That excitement is palpable in the footage. The scale feels bigger. The action feels heavier. And the IMAX framing suggests this is not simply a stretched TV episode but a genuine cinematic swing.
‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ opens exclusively in cinemas on Wednesday, 22nd May 2026.
