Great news for fans of the reimagined outlaw legend: MGM+ has confirmed that ‘Robin Hood‘ is heading back for a second season, and honestly, it can’t come soon enough.
The streaming service has handed the show a 10-episode second season order, with production set to get underway at PFI Studios in Serbia this summer. Given that ‘Robin Hood’ is apparently one of MGM+’s best-performing first seasons of all time, the renewal is well deserved. If you haven’t caught season one yet, our review gives it a well-earned 4/5, and it really is one of the most grounded, politically sharp takes on the legend that’s ever been put on screen.
Season two looks set to push the story well beyond the familiar mud and forest of Sherwood and Nottingham, expanding into the treacherous courts of England, France, and Rome. As the Angevin empire starts tearing itself apart, Rob and Marian are dragged into the orbit of kings and queens, forced to use the very tools of Norman power (politics, gold, and betrayal) to fight for the Saxons’ future. It sounds like a bold leap in scope, while still keeping the romance and rivalry at its core.
Season one starred Jack Patten as Rob, Lauren McQueen as Marian, Sean Bean (Snowpiercer) as the Sheriff of Nottingham, Lydia Peckham as Priscilla of Nottingham, Steven Waddington (The Last of the Mohicans) as the Earl of Huntingdon, and Connie Nielsen (Gladiator) as Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine. Season two casting hasn’t been announced yet, but we’ll bring you that news as it comes.
John Glenn returns as showrunner and executive producer, alongside executive producer and director Jonathan English and executive producer Todd Lieberman of Hidden Pictures.
Michael Wright, global head of MGM+, said: “Robin Hood quickly became one of our top-performing original series of all time, and the response from our audiences both in the U.S. and abroad has been exceptional. We’re thrilled to continue this epic adventure for a second season. John Glenn, Jonathan English, and the entire creative team have reimagined this legendary tale with remarkable depth and authenticity, and we can’t wait to see where they take us next.”
Glenn and English added: “MGM+, Lionsgate, and Todd have been extraordinary partners — fearless in backing our vision of this classic legend. Their support has allowed us to expand the world in Season two in a way that feels both epic and intimate. We’re thrilled and grateful to continue the journey with a team that believes in our ambition for where this story can go and in delivering a season that will connect with audiences in an even more powerful way.”
‘Robin Hood‘ Season 1 is available on MGM+ in the UK, as well as in the US, Italy, Germany, Spain, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Belgium, and the Netherlands.
