FX’s critically acclaimed kitchen drama ‘The Bear‘ is preparing to close its doors. According to reports, the hit series will end with its upcoming fifth season, bringing the story of Carmy Berzatto and his chaotic Chicago restaurant to a planned conclusion.
The news isn’t entirely surprising for fans who have followed the show’s trajectory. Creator Christopher Storer had previously suggested the series might only run for a limited number of seasons, with star Jeremy Allen White (Shameless)’s character Carmy already hinting at stepping away from the restaurant by the end of Season 4. That narrative direction appears to be setting the stage for the final chapter.
The announcement was also accidentally teased by Jamie Lee Curtis (Everything Everywhere All At Once), who has appeared in the series as Carmy and Natalie’s volatile mother Donna Berzatto. Curtis shared a post on Instagram celebrating the completion of filming with Abby Elliott (Saturday Night Live), writing:
“FINISHED STRONG! Surrounded by an extraordinary crew and group of writers and producers and scene partners on the show that Chris Storer created, completing the story of this extraordinary family that we have all fallen in love with. Got to finish it out with my baby Berzatto bear.”
Since launching in 2022, the series has become one of FX’s biggest critical successes, blending high-pressure kitchen drama with deeply personal character storytelling. The show stars Jeremy Allen White (Shameless), Ayo Edebiri (Bottoms), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Punisher), Lionel Boyce (Loiter Squad), Liza Colón-Zayas (In Treatment), and Matty Matheson (Dead Set on Life), with Oliver Platt (Chicago Med) and Molly Gordon (Booksmart) appearing in recurring roles.
Awards have followed the show almost from the moment it launched. It won the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series in 2023, with individual wins for White, Moss-Bachrach, Edebiri and Storer. Liza Colón-Zayas later picked up Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2024, while Jamie Lee Curtis also scored an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series.
With Season 5 set to wrap up the story, the series will end as one of the most celebrated TV runs of the past few years. If the show sticks the landing, it may join the rare club of prestige dramas that finish exactly where their creators intended rather than overstaying their welcome.
