The BBC has unveiled more casting for ‘Time‘ series 3, as production gets underway in Belfast on the next chapter of Jimmy McGovern (Unforgivable, Cracker, The Street)’s award-winning prison drama.
Previously announced leads David Tennant (Doctor Who, Rivals) and Siobhan Finneran (Happy Valley, Downton Abbey) are now joined by Vinette Robinson (Boiling Point, The Lazarus Project), Jo Joyner (Little Disasters, Stay Close), Daniel Ryan (Such Brave Girls, The Bay), Warren Brown (Ten Pound Poms, The Responder), Louis McCartney (Stranger Things: The First Shadow, Hope Street), Ollie McNulty, Chukwubuikem Molokwu, Victor Zhao, Paul Smith Junior, Finn Kearns, Jack Barnes, and Ethaniel Davy (Chicken Town, Hollyoaks).
Set in a Young Offenders Institution, ‘Time’ series 3 explores the impact of locking up teenagers, alongside the toll it takes on the people working inside the prison. Tennant stars as veteran officer Bailey, while Finneran plays prison chaplain Marie-Louise, who arrives at the institution having lost her faith.
The new series follows Marie-Louise and Bailey as they are pulled into the aftermath of a major tragedy inside the prison. At the same time, two teenage inmates, Peter and James, try to survive the brutal early weeks of incarceration, with their growing friendship potentially changing both of their futures, assuming the system does not crush them first. Cheerful stuff, then. Very much ‘Time’.
Vinette Robinson plays Erica, Jo Joyner is Nicola, Daniel Ryan takes on the role of Custodial Manager Jennings, Warren Brown plays Albie, and Louis McCartney is James. Ollie McNulty and Chukwubuikem Molokwu make their screen debuts as Peter and Christopher, while Ethaniel Davy plays Jayden.
Further cast members include Victor Zhao, Paul Smith Junior, Finn Kearns and Jack Barnes, who also make their screen debuts as Jietang, Toby, Mark and Chaz respectively.

The three-part drama is written by Jimmy McGovern and Samuel Bailey, directed by Paul Whittington, and produced by Amanda Black. It is made by BBC Studios Fiction for BBC iPlayer and BBC One, co-produced by BritBox for North America, with support from Northern Ireland Screen.
