NBC Renews ‘Chicago Fire’, ‘Chicago P.D.’ & ‘Chicago Med’ As Sky Witness Awaits UK Return

NBC is keeping the Windy City running for another year, renewing ‘Chicago Fire’, ‘Chicago P.D.’ and ‘Chicago Med’ for the 2026-2027 season.

That takes ‘Chicago Fire’ into season 15, ‘Chicago P.D.’ into season 14, and ‘Chicago Med’ into season 12, extending one of the most dependable franchises on US broadcast television. More than a decade in, Dick Wolf’s One Chicago universe is still a major part of NBC’s drama slate, with the three shows continuing to deliver for the network both individually and as a shared franchise.

For UK viewers, the news lands while the current seasons of all three dramas are sitting on their mid-season break on Sky Witness. They are due back in April, so fans here will not have to wait too long before Firehouse 51, Intelligence and Gaffney Medical Center are back on screens. This year’s scheduling has felt a bit more stop-start than usual on both sides of the Atlantic too, with the return of a number of US shows pushed later than normal due to Winter Olympics coverage in the States.

The renewals were hardly a shock, but they do arrive a little earlier than last year, when the future of the franchise reportedly involved more back-and-forth over budgets, episode counts and cast costs. This time round, the pickups feel much cleaner, which suggests NBC still sees One Chicago as one of its most valuable scripted brands.

NBC also pointed to the success of the recent March crossover event, which pushed all three dramas to season highs in total viewers. That is exactly the sort of thing that keeps this franchise so important to the network. These are not just three solid returning dramas, they are a connected TV machine that still knows how to pull in an audience when it goes big.

There will still be the usual questions over episode orders and cast deals for next season, especially with long-running shows like these, but the main headline is simple enough: all three are safely coming back. So while UK viewers wait for the current seasons to resume on Sky Witness in April, they can at least do so knowing there is plenty more One Chicago still to come.
