CBS Cancels ‘Watson’ After Two Seasons

by Dave Elliott

CBS has cancelled Watson, meaning the Sherlock Holmes-inspired medical drama will now end with its currently airing second season. For UK viewers, that is the key part of the story, as ‘Watson’ is already airing its now-final run on Sky Witness and NOW.

Led by Morris Chestnut (The Resident, Rosewood) as Dr John Watson, the series put a slightly unusual spin on the Sherlock Holmes mythology, turning it into a medical mystery drama where Watson and his team tackled baffling cases while still living in the shadow of Holmes and Moriarty. It was a strange but interesting idea, and one that gave the show a slightly different flavour from the usual TV medical procedural.

Season 2 had started to lean further into the Holmes side of the concept too, with Robert Carlyle (Once Upon a Time, The Full Monty) appearing as Sherlock Holmes himself. That gave the series a new wrinkle just as it seemed to be pushing deeper into the larger mythology behind the premise, but CBS has now decided there will not be a third season.

The cancellation came as part of CBS locking in its scripted slate for the 2026 to 2027 season, with DMV also getting the chop. In Watson’s case, the writing had arguably been on the wall for a while, particularly as other newer dramas moved forward and the series remained one of the network’s bubble titles.

For UK audiences, it means ‘Watson’ is no longer just airing a second season, it is airing its final one. So if you have been following the show on Sky Witness and hoping there was more to come, this is now officially the end of the road.

Watson’ airs on Sky Witness and NOW in the UK. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
