Disney+ has revealed a first look at ‘Alice and Steve‘, a new UK-made comedy-drama heading to the streamer this summer, and it sounds wonderfully chaotic.
Created and written by Sophie Goodhart (Sex Education), the six-part series stars Nicola Walker (The Split, Unforgotten) and Jemaine Clement (What We Do in the Shadows, Flight of the Conchords) as best friends whose lives implode when Steve starts dating Alice’s 26-year-old daughter. What follows is less rom-com and more full-blown social catastrophe, with the friendship spiralling into an increasingly bitter feud.
Alongside Walker and Clement, the cast also includes Yali Topol Margalith (The Tattooist of Auschwitz, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder) as Izzy, and Joel Fry (Cruella) as Daniel. Also appearing are Tyrese Eaton-Dyce, Marcia Warren, Eilidh Fisher and Ebony Aboagye.
The official synopsis sets up Alice as a woman blindsided when her best friend and her daughter become romantically involved, leaving her feeling like she’s about to lose both of them at once. Naturally, she decides to try and stop it. Less naturally, Steve is completely ready for war. The result is being pitched as an “anti-romantic comedy” about friendship, family, love, revenge, and just how badly things can unravel when emotions get messy.
There is also a nice bit of early prestige heat behind the series, with ‘Alice and Steve’ set to have its World Premiere in competition at CANNESERIES 2026. That is not a bad way to launch what Disney+ is clearly hoping will be one of its standout UK titles for the summer.
Behind the camera, the series is directed by BAFTA winner Tom Kingsley (Stath Lets Flats), with Petra Fried, Andy Baker and Wim De Greef executive producing for Clerkenwell Films. Fran du Pille produces, and the series was commissioned by Lee Mason, Vice President, Scripted, Disney+ EMEA.
Given the premise, this feels like it could land in a very fun space between emotional trainwreck, sharp relationship comedy and full-on awkward disaster. With Walker and Clement leading it, that is a pretty strong combination already.
‘Alice and Steve’ does not yet have a premiere date but will air on Disney+ in the UK in summer 2026. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
