Amazon MGM’s Live-Action ‘Masters Of The Universe’ Unleashes First Trailer As Eternia Heads To Cinemas This June

by Dave Elliott

Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Studios have finally unveiled the first trailer for ‘Masters Of The Universe’, giving fans their best look yet at the long-awaited live-action return of He-Man, Skeletor, and the world of Eternia.

Directed by Travis Knight (Bumblebee, Kubo and the Two Strings), the new film looks like it is aiming squarely at that sweet spot between 80s nostalgia and big-screen fantasy spectacle. The setup sees Prince Adam separated from Eternia for years before being pulled back into a war-torn world under the rule of Skeletor, where he must embrace his destiny and become He-Man.

That first trailer leans hard into the scale of it all too, with the Sword of Power, Castle Grayskull mythology, and a properly chunky fantasy-sci-fi feel that should please long-time fans of the toys, cartoons, and comics. It also seems to be pushing the idea that this is not just a nostalgia play for people who grew up with He-Man, but a broader action adventure designed for a new generation as well.

Leading the cast is Nicholas Galitzine (The Idea of You, Red, White & Royal Blue) as Prince Adam/He-Man, alongside Camila Mendes (Riverdale, Upgraded) as Teela, Idris Elba (Hijack, Luther) as Duncan/Man-At-Arms, and Jared Leto (Morbius, WeCrashed) as Skeletor. The cast also includes Alison Brie (GLOW, Community), James Purefoy (Sex Education, The Following), Morena Baccarin (Deadpool, Homeland), Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson (Vikings: Valhalla, Succession), Charlotte Riley (Peaky Blinders, The Peripheral), with Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids, Palm Royale) voicing Roboto.

There is also the usual modern franchise rollout around the movie, including Mattel’s new “Become Eternian” digital experience, which lets fans create their own hero or villain alter-ego ahead of release. That is very much the Mattel playbook post-Barbie, with the studio clearly hoping Masters Of The Universe can become its next major big-screen brand hit.

Whether this ends up being a full-on franchise launcher remains to be seen, but on trailer evidence alone, it certainly looks like Amazon MGM and Mattel are not playing this one small. It is big, shiny, dramatic, and gloriously earnest, which is pretty much what a Masters Of The Universe movie ought to be.

‘Masters Of The Universe’ opens in US cinemas on Friday, 5th June 2026, with the international release arriving this June via Sony Pictures International Releasing.
