Apple TV has released the trailer for ‘Criminal Record’ Season 2, with the London-set crime thriller returning later this April for another run of tense, character-driven drama led by Peter Capaldi (Doctor Who, The Devil’s Hour) and Cush Jumbo (The Good Wife, Stay Close).
Created by Paul Rutman (Vera, Indian Summers), ‘Criminal Record’ heads back into murky territory for its second season, once again following Detective Sergeant June Lenker and Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Hegarty. This time, the story begins with the stabbing of a young man at a political rally, pulling the two rival officers into an uneasy alliance that soon spirals into something far bigger. What starts as a murder investigation grows into an undercover operation tied to a far-right bomb plot in the heart of London, which sounds like the show is not exactly planning a quiet return.
Capaldi and Jumbo reprise their roles as Hegarty and Lenker, with new cast members including Dustin Demri-Burns (Stath Lets Flats, Slow Horses), Luca Pasqualino (The Musketeers, Snowpiercer), Luther Ford (The Crown), Lyndsey Marshal (Inside Man, Rome) and Peter Sullivan (Poldark, The Borgias). They join returning cast members Shaun Dooley (Toxic Town, The Long Shadow), Stephen Campbell Moore (The One, War of the Worlds) and Charlie Creed-Miles (The Last Kingdom, Giri/Haji).
The series is produced for Apple TV by Tod Productions and STV Studios, with Elaine Collins, Chris Sussman, Rutman, Capaldi and Jumbo serving as executive producers. Direction on the new season comes from Ben A. Williams and Joelle Mae David.
If the new trailer is anything to go by, ‘Criminal Record’ is leaning even harder into paranoia, political tension and the sort of messy moral territory that made the first run such a strong watch. Having Capaldi and Jumbo circling each other again is reason enough to be interested, but throwing a far-right terror plot into the mix suggests Season 2 is aiming to go bigger as well as darker.
‘Criminal Record’ Season 2 premieres Wednesday, 22nd April 2026 on Apple TV.
