ITV is adding another tense transatlantic thriller to its spring slate, as ‘The Murder Line‘ (aka The Borderline) lands on ITV1 and ITVX this April. Previously announced for UK viewers without a confirmed date, the six-part crime drama, known as ‘The Borderline’ in the US and Canada, stars Stephen Amell (Arrow), Minnie Driver (Good Will Hunting), and Hamza Haq (Transplant).
At the centre of ‘The Murder Line’ is officer Henry Roland, a cop from the wrong side of the tracks who crosses a dangerous line in an attempt to protect his childhood best friend. That decision triggers a chain of events which sends his life spiralling, as suspicion closes in from fellow officers, criminals, and the very town he is meant to serve.
Set in the Thousand Islands region, where Lake Ontario meets the St. Lawrence River and the US-Canada border cuts through everyday life, the series leans hard into questions of loyalty, identity, and the weight of shared history. Henry discovers evidence linking missing illegal substances to his best friend Tommy Hawley, played by Haq, a man with whom he shares a dark secret. As he tries to protect Tommy, a powerful British crime family led by Driver’s May Ferguson is also closing in.
That setup gives ‘The Murder Line’ plenty of room to play in morally murky territory, with creator Graeme Stewart previously describing the drama as an exploration of what defines a person beyond the people around them, and how much of that identity is shaped by where they come from. It is very much a story about place, history, and the ties that can pull people under.
The wider cast includes Tamara Podemski (Outer Range), Katia Edith Wood (The Boys), Jeremy Watson (Hudson & Rex), Kate Corbett (The Sinner), Anna Douglas (Pretty Hard Cases), Thomas Craig (Coronation Street), Christopher Heyerdahl (Under the Banner of Heaven), and Diego Klattenhoff (The Blacklist), helping build out a world where there are no easy heroes and very few clean hands.
Given ITV’s growing appetite for darker imported crime fare, ‘The Murder Line’ looks like a strong fit for the channel, especially with Amell and Driver fronting a series built around fractured loyalties, cross-border crime, and a town full of secrets.
‘The Murder Line’ premieres Saturday, 18th April 2026 at 10:00pm on ITV1, and will also be available on ITVX.
