Prime Video has snapped up UK rights to ‘Embassy‘, the new six-part action thriller led by Anna Kendrick (Woman of the Hour), Sam Heughan (Outlander) and J.K. Simmons (Whiplash), with a raft of new cast members now also joining the series.
The streamer has secured the show for the UK, Ireland, Canada, France, Australia and New Zealand, giving the series a solid international landing spot before it arrives next year. That is a fairly tidy result for a project which has been quietly building buzz for a while, not least because the premise sounds like it was designed to keep everyone under maximum pressure for six episodes straight.
Set around a violent assault on the U.S. Embassy in London, the thriller follows Layla, a sharp American diplomat played by Kendrick, who is forced into an impossible situation when armed mercenaries storm the building. She has to decide whether to protect the U.S. Ambassador, played by Simmons, or follow his orders to extract a high-value asset. Standing in the middle of all that chaos is Heughan’s Connor Wright, Layla’s battle-hardened ex-fiancé, who ends up dragged into the crisis as the clock runs down.
Alongside the central trio, the cast has expanded with Aleksandar Jovanovic (The Gold), Lydia Leonard (Gentleman Jack), Mitya Savelau (3 Body Problem), Hasan Akil (Memory Box), James Murray (Masters of the Air), Luke Treadaway (Unbroken), Stephen Odubola (Boiling Point), Katie McGrath (Supergirl), Alexander Karim (Gladiator 2) and Natalie Mendoza (Jack Ryan).
The series comes from writer and creator Rom Lotan, with John Strickland and Christian Alvart directing. It is produced by AGC Television, Ascendant Fox and Turbine Studios, and filming is now underway in Cologne and London.
It is also another notable UK pickup for Prime Video, especially as the service continues to sharpen its scripted ambitions on this side of the Atlantic. With a cast like this and a London-set embassy siege at the centre of it, ‘Embassy’ has the sort of setup that could land very nicely with thriller fans.
‘Embassy‘ does not yet have a premiere date but will air on Prime Video in the UK in 2027. If you want to keep track of this or any other shows, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
