‘The Marlow Murder Club’ Renewed For Season 4 On U & U&DRAMA

by Dave Elliott

The Marlow Murder Club will be back to investigate more picturesque peril, as U has renewed the cosy crime drama for a fourth series.

The much-loved U&Original drama, adapted from the novels by Robert Thorogood (Death in Paradise), will return in 2027 with six new episodes. The series is co-produced by US broadcaster MASTERPIECE and Monumental Television, in association with ITV Studios, with pre-investment from UKTV. MASTERPIECE Mystery! on PBS remains the US broadcaster.

Returning to Marlow are meticulous crossword-setter Judith Potts, played by Samantha Bond (Downton Abbey), pillar of the community and vicar’s wife Becks Starling, played by Cara Horgan (The Sandman), and no-nonsense dog walker Suzie Harris, played by Jo Martin (Doctor Who). Also back is Natalie Dew (Sandylands) as DI Tanika Malik, alongside series regulars Holli Dempsey (Harlots), Phill Langhorne (Murder in Provence) and Tijan Sarr (Mood).

The new series will include an adaptation of Thorogood’s Sunday Times bestseller Murder on the Marlow Belle, alongside brand-new original mysteries. The opening story begins with the discovery of a body in the river, which is soon linked to the Marlow Amateur Dramatics Society and a homegrown Hollywood star. Elsewhere, the trio investigate a suspicious death at a mother’s wake, apparently caused by an allergic reaction, and the murder of a vineyard co-owner found drowned in his own wine.

As ever, Judith, Becks and Suzie will need to pick their way through family scandals, personal betrayals and the sort of close-knit community secrets that make picturesque English towns statistically lethal places to live if you’re in a murder mystery.

The fourth series continues the show’s blend of humour, mystery and heart, with Robert Thorogood writing episodes one and two, adapting Murder on the Marlow Belle. The second two-part story will be written by Amy Reith, with Thorogood and Reith co-writing episodes five and six. Steve Barron returns to direct the first four episodes.

“The Marlow Murder Club has quickly become one of our most popular Mystery! series. The strong female characters with unique skills and a special bond that resonates with our audience. And who doesn’t like to solve a good puzzle?! The fourth season is sure to deliver on everything the fans have come to love about the show,” said MASTERPIECE Head of Scripted Content and Executive Producer Susanne Simpson.

Executive producers for Monumental Television are Alison Owen, Debra Hayward, Alison Carpenter, Amira El-Nemr and Jill Forbes. The series will be produced by Serena Cullen, with Robert Thorogood also serving as executive producer.

Owen and Hayward added, “We’re delighted to be back in Marlow for a fourth time, bringing three more murder mysteries to one of the most picturesque towns in England. Robert and Amy have expertly crafted yet another deliciously twisty set of crimes to be solved. Packed with intrigue, wit and heart, we can’t wait to bring these new adventures to the screen.”

Filming is about to begin in Marlow and the surrounding area, with ITV Studios handling international distribution outside of the US.

The Marlow Murder Club‘ Season 4 will launch on free-streaming service U in 2027, and will also air on free-to-air channel U&DRAMA.
