Netflix’s upcoming Las Vegas drama ‘The Roman’ has expanded its already rather impressive cast, adding Vincent D’Onofrio (Daredevil: Born Again), Kate Mara (A Teacher), Clancy Brown (I Will Find You), Thomas Sadoski (The Newsroom) and Jason Schwartzman (Mountainhead).
The five actors join previously announced star Oscar Isaac (Moon Knight), alongside Betty Gilpin (GLOW), Alec Baldwin (30 Rock), David Costabile (Billions), Shalom Brune-Franklin (The Tourist) and Jimmy O. Yang (Space Force).
Created by Brian Koppelman and David Levien, the duo behind Billions and Super Pumped, the hour-long drama heads into the high-stakes and sharp-elbowed world of the modern Las Vegas casino business. The city might have changed since the legendary days of old-school Vegas, but it is apparently no less dangerous.
At the centre of the story is Robert “Bobby Red” Redman, played by Isaac, president of the hottest hotel casino in town. With rivals circling and his position under threat, Bobby is forced to make some long-odds moves as he attempts to protect his territory and grab even more power.
D’Onofrio joins ‘The Roman’ as series regular Dominic Ward, a powerful MMA mogul who uses the pulling power of his massive live events to manipulate the casino bosses competing for his business.
Mara will also appear as a series regular, playing Holly Reeve. A highly educated entrepreneur, Holly runs the city’s most exclusive and discreet empire. She also shares a deep and complicated history with Bobby, which is unlikely to make his already difficult life any easier.
Brown and Sadoski will both recur in the series. Brown plays Elwood, a weathered and imposing figure with deep connections to the surrounding desert landscape. A man of few words but significant actions, he knows exactly where the city’s literal and metaphorical bodies are buried.
Sadoski portrays Chef Luca, a brilliant but self-destructive superstar chef whose personal entanglements and rock-star antics threaten to derail his high-end restaurant residency at The Roman.
Schwartzman will guest star as David Krupp, a clean-cut heir who finds himself badly out of his depth when his mounting casino debts place him directly in the sights of Las Vegas’ most powerful players.
Koppelman and Levien serve as showrunners and executive producers, with Isaac also executive producing. Martin Scorsese and Sikelia Productions, Julie Yorn and Rick Yorn for Expanded Media, Paul Schiff and Beth Schacter are also executive producers.
JC Chandor, who previously directed Isaac in A Most Violent Year and Triple Frontier, will direct the opening two episodes and executive produce, with Kerry Orent serving as co-executive producer.
‘The Roman’ does not yet have a premiere date on Netflix. If I want to keep track of this or any other shows, I can add them via our Never Miss system, and I’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date. Visit Never Miss.
