MGM+ has released the official trailer, key art and new images for ‘American Hostage‘, a new psychological thriller starring Jon Hamm (Mad Men), which lands on the streaming service this September.
Based on the acclaimed first season of the scripted podcast of the same name, ‘American Hostage’ takes us back to 1970s Indianapolis for the true story of radio reporter Fred Heckman. When hostage-taker Tony Kiritsis demands to be interviewed live on Heckman’s popular radio news programme, the journalist suddenly finds himself at the centre of a very real life-or-death situation.
Jon Hamm (Mad Men) stars as Heckman, alongside Giovanni Ribisi (Sneaky Pete) as Kiritsis. The cast also includes Kristoffer Polaha (Condor) as Dick Hall, William Jackson Harper (The Good Place) as Ben Hairston, Mireille Enos (The Killing) as Barbara Heckman, Jonathan Tucker (Kingdom) as FBI Special Agent Cormac McNally, and Kat Cunning (Trinkets) as Ibby Hall.
The eight-episode series comes from co-creators Shawn Ryan and Eileen Myers, with Sharon Hoffman, Jon Hamm, Connie Tavel, Marney Hochman, Shawn Christensen, Gabriel Mason, Jen Roskind, Adam Arkin and Nina Lopez Corrado also serving as executive producers. Arkin and Lopez Corrado additionally direct episodes of the drama.
Alongside the new trailer, MGM+ has unveiled the key art and a batch of new images from the series, giving us a better look at the period setting and the increasingly tense confrontation at the heart of the story.
‘American Hostage’ is also heading to the Toronto International Film Festival for its World Premiere before making its streaming debut. The series launches with two episodes, followed by new instalments weekly through the beginning of November.
‘American Hostage‘, Season 1 premieres Sunday, 20th September 2026 on MGM+.
