Sky has begun production on ‘Charmer‘, a new eight-part thriller starring Anthony Boyle (The Altruists, House of Guinness), alongside Siena Kelly (Black Mirror, Adult Material), Connor Swindells (The Entertainment System Is Down, SAS Rogue Heroes) and Sophie Wilde (Digger, Talk to Me).
Coming from Working Title Television and Story Films, ‘Charmer’ dives into the murky world of modern relationships through Ryan, played by Boyle, a seducer-for-hire employed by wealthy clients to test whether their partners can be tempted into cheating. Which seems like exactly the sort of job where keeping your personal and professional lives separate would be fairly important…
Unfortunately for Ryan, that becomes increasingly difficult when one particular assignment gets personal as a wedding approaches. With deception beginning to turn into genuine desire, he risks breaking the one rule that has always kept his unusual career functioning: never fall in love.
The drama is described as an exploration of trust, desire and the pursuit of authentic love, although presumably with considerably more lying, manipulation and questionable life choices than your average rom-com.
Anthony Boyle stars as Ryan, with Siena Kelly as Emily, Connor Swindells as Max and Sophie Wilde as Cameron. The wider cast also includes Sam Delich, Vivian Oparah, Neil Maskell, Karan Gill, Sophie Simnett and Polly Walker.
Anthony Boyle said: “I’m thrilled to come on board and play Ryan in Charmer, working alongside such incredible talent. Tom’s scripts are fantastic, heartfelt, funny and smart. I can’t wait for people to meet the characters that Siena, Connor and Sophie create.”
The series is created and written by Thomas Aspell, with additional episodes written by Melissa Bubnic, Constance Cheng and Anna Ssemuyaba. Emmy-winning and BAFTA-nominated Elliot Hegarty directs the first block, with Dionne Edwards directing block two.
Working Title Television and Story Films produce the drama in association with Universal Global Television and Sky Studios. Executive producers include Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Surian Fletcher-Jones and Simon Hatton for Working Title Television, David Nath and Peter Beard for Story Films, alongside Thomas Aspell and Elliot Hegarty. Manpreet Dosanjh executive produces for Sky, with Charlotte Surtees serving as series producer.
‘Charmer‘ will air on Sky and streaming service NOW in the UK and Italy. No premiere date has yet been announced.
