Ella Purnell (Fallout, Yellowjackets) is slipping back into the murderous life of Rhiannon Lewis, as ‘Sweetpea‘ prepares to return to Sky this November, and the first teaser trailer suggests her problems are only getting bigger.
After discovering in Season 1 that being overlooked can be surprisingly useful when you’re trying to get away with murder, Rhiannon enters ‘Sweetpea’ Season 2 with a new promotion, a new romantic distraction, and a rapidly growing list of complications. Most troubling of all is the arrival of a copycat killer who could threaten to expose everything she has been hiding.
The mounting body count also leaves Rhiannon wrestling with an uncomfortable question about herself. Her ex, AJ, thought there was something monstrous lurking beneath the apparently harmless wallflower. As the new season unfolds, she may have to consider whether he had a point.
Joining the cast is Rish Shah (Overcompensating, Joy) as Gabriel, Rhiannon’s new romantic interest, while Tamsin Greig (Riot Women, Friday Night Dinner) plays AJ’s mother, Liv. Taj Atwal (Riot Women, Line of Duty) joins as Freya, Rhiannon’s formidable new boss at the Carnsham Gazette, and Jenny Walser (Heartstopper, Star City) plays her new friend Daisy.
There are also plenty of familiar faces returning for another round of extremely questionable decisions. Jon Pointing (Big Boys, Run Away), Jeremy Swift (Ted Lasso, Downton Abbey), Leah Harvey (Foundation, The Scurry), Ingrid Oliver (Doctor Who), Nitin Ganatra (Mr Bigstuff, Sexy Beast) and Alexandra Dowling (Emily, Game of Thrones) all return for Season 2.
The series is adapted from C.J. Skuse’s novel of the same name and is produced by See-Saw Films and fanboy in association with Sky Studios. Ella Purnell also serves as an executive producer alongside Ella Jones, Kirstie Swain, Patrick Walters, Helen Gregory, Iain Canning and Emile Sherman.
Selina Lim is lead writer on the new season, with Emme Hoy, Anna Jordan and Laura Jayne Tunbridge writing additional episodes. Ella Jones serves as lead director, while Coky Giedroyc directs episodes two, three and four.
The teaser gives us our first proper taste of Rhiannon’s next chapter, and it looks like promotion at work hasn’t made her life any calmer. Between romance, family complications, an increasingly dangerous secret and someone apparently taking inspiration from her extracurricular activities, keeping her double life hidden could be rather more difficult this time around.
