Netflix is heading back into the wonderfully complicated world of Flight 828, announcing ‘Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery‘, a new sci-fi series set in the universe of ‘Manifest‘.
The streamer picked 8/28 for the reveal, a date which is, obviously, very deliberate for anyone who spent four seasons obsessing over Flight 828. Rather than picking up directly with the Stone family, ‘Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery’ will introduce an entirely new cast and mystery, while reuniting much of the creative team behind ‘Manifest’.
Original creator and showrunner Jeff Rake returns as co-creator and co-showrunner alongside Margaret Easley and Laura Putney, both former co-executive producers on the original series. The trio will also write and executive produce the new show.
The story begins when a mysterious plane crash-lands in Denver. Its passengers emerge with no memory of who they are, where they came from, or why they are there. A young social worker and a novice Homeland Security agent team up with the new arrivals as they attempt to prevent a catastrophe that could wipe out humanity, only to discover they are all part of the puzzle they are trying to solve.
So, yes, we have another mysterious aircraft, another group of passengers who definitely have some explaining to do, and potentially the end of the world. It certainly sounds like ‘Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery’ is aiming to scratch the same mystery-box itch that made ‘Manifest’ such an addictive watch, while introducing a story designed to work for newcomers too.

Their return ensures the creative continuity essential to this franchise, allowing us to honor what made the original a phenomenon while introducing a fresh perspective for fans worldwide,” commented Jinny Howe, Netflix Head of Scripted Series, US & Canada.
The original ‘Manifest’ had a rather eventful journey of its own. The sci-fi drama ran for three seasons on NBC before being cancelled, only to explode in popularity after landing on Netflix. The streamer subsequently stepped in to give the series a fourth and final season, allowing Rake and the team to properly conclude the Flight 828 story.
And the audience certainly stuck around. Netflix says that since the first half of 2023, all four seasons of ‘Manifest’ have amassed more than 130 million views, while Season 4 spent nine weeks in the Global Top 10 English TV list and reached number one in more than 90 countries.
“But the world of Manifest has more stories to tell. To now bring fans a brand-new mystery from that world is quite simply beyond my wildest dreams,” said Rake.
The showrunner is joined by Easley and Putney after more than a decade working together, with the pair now stepping up as co-creators and co-showrunners for the new series.
Executive producers also include Robert Zemeckis and Jack Rapke of Compari Entertainment, Len Goldstein of Tall Baby Productions, and Jacqueline Levine. Warner Bros. Television is the studio behind the series.
Netflix has not yet announced when ‘Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery‘Â will premiere.
